Comments (12)We are a stove showroom that offers a supply and install package. Myself personally, I would go down the fire board the chamber route on the sides, square off the opening as the arch is small or just leave the arch brickwork exposed and split face oyster slate the back of the opening which will give you a nice light opening, the sides can then be painted a light colour. The hearth I would recommend something rustic such as an Indian stone which will tie in nicely with the oyster back. If you square off the opening this leaves you the option to install a beam or not. I have attached a picture of something like what I would recommend. The stove is a DG Ivar which at the minute is an extremely popular option....See MoreFireplace or no fireplace?
Comments (5)Hello Angela, A photo of the room would be good.. I agree having not had a tv for nearly 10 years... I definitely hate seeing them in people's living rooms.. I would have a projector and pull down screen from ceiling... Well then back to the question at hand.. I'd say have a wood burner you can get one for as little as £250 and the pellet ones are far more.... The wood burning stoves are fantastic and as much as you might think you may not use it.. In winter there is nothing like having a proper wood burning I get 1 delivery of logs a year and I use them economically... I'm writing this in August and it looks like a monsoon outside! I'm glancing now at the fire and thinking.. Also can you not have your tv and a wood burner? The tv could be in a less overtly visible space.. . : ))...See MoreWhat would you do with this off-centre fireplace?
Comments (63)HI Sarah I love what you have achieved. Many congrats for embracing what you have and creating something that totally enhances the placement of the fireplace. The space looks like it was made for the placement of that perfect chair and you've done a gorgeous job with your selection and placement of art . I am moving with considerable grief from my gorgeous arts and crafts bungalow to an early1970s small house. I have to say this style of architecture in NZ wasnt exactly a highlight. But I set myself a challange to embrace the architecture and look to enhance rather than fight it . That challenge shifted me off my despair track and now I am excited and hopeful and thinking about space and colour and the amazing light pouring in (a quality of houses of this time)..and textures . i feel so cteative in new and diffetent ways...and it's so exciting. seeing what you have achieved - it is very affirming for me I love what you have created....See MoreBedroom dilemma - lose the sink, fireplace, both or neither?
Comments (58)your welcome from my experience you are always starting again with homes as styles and you change so you will have a head start. I'm always changing things with paint and reinventing rooms but over the years found that the classics especially if originals like yours will always stand the test of time and never go out of style but they dont have to look dated mix it up. if you tire of the carpet which I love think about making it into a huge rug bounded around the edge with what ever colour adorns your walls then would look stunning on a wood floor same with the sink could always be used in another room I would team it with black or even faux marble back drop oh endless fun and NOT AVAILABLE on the high street enjoy your home always...See Moretriciabull
