Love to colours but afraid I'll get fed up with it or it will date or be hard to live with ??

Comments (7)Thanks. I can't see the colour of the curtains but If you are willing to lose the cushions, a pale blue would work with both the tan and gold. The colours at the moment are quite warm so it would nice to add a cool colour to give it some contrast. Given the style of the room I would add an upholstered footstool/coffee table in the blue and cushions etc. As the back window is off centre I am struggling with how 2 tall bookcases would look. A tall bookcase on the left may work with a cabinet/sideboard on the right with lamps etc to give height. I totally get what you've said re the tv but maybe one idea is to get a cabinet that encloses it. I'd move the tv to where the sofa is on the right and move that sofa opposite the other one and place the armchair next to the fire (assuming there is room with photo angles!). If you're going for a dark oak floor I'd go for light oak furniture or even something painted to offset against the floor. Comments (13)Hi Danielle It's surely a dilemma, although judging by the stuff you already decided on, it's going to be lovely either way. Personally I'm leaning towards a dark floor, even though we decided on a lighter maple floor for ourselves. Really liking Minnie's suggestion too though. Have you thought about engineered wood? Seeing you have chosen some lovely natural materials like marble I think real wood will actually show its worth and with some shopping around you can find a decent quality (the thicker the veneer the better) for similar prices to (quality) laminate. We chose engineered wood for our floors some years ago and it still looks and feels great. Perhaps for kitchen areas it will need sealing after installing however. Hope that helps... Comments (19)Hi Sal89, I love sparkly things, but I would accessorise with sparkles and glitter rather than the worktop in case you change your mind 5 years on.... I have just done my kitchen and I went for a crystal chandelier and crystal knobs and I think it looks fabulous and very "me". I can change it when I get bored for a very minimal cost! The rest of the kitchen is plain with mussel and lamp room grey units and a white dekton worktop. Another option you can also add a glittery roman blind too! Comments (29)Update: we bottled out and went for traditional wooden gates in the end! We're delighted with them (and so is our dog who can see right through!). Took the advice to remove the pillar lights and placed uplighters at the bottom of the pillar and planted roses under them. As always, thank you for all your wonderful comments and help....See More

Hi Michelle, here are some rather bad pics of the four sides of my kitchen. The F&B French Grey looks quite light in the pics, sorry, they are not so great, just taken them. Hopefully they are of each side of the kitchen.
I found some fabric (Lewis & Wood, called Fly Fishing http://www.lewisandwood.co.uk/products/view/fly-fishing.one-cway) on ebay that matches the wallpaper and am hoping to get a blind and a window seat made up, which I am looking forward to.
The pictures on the wall are not pictures, they are large trays from ibride which I use as I do not have a dining room at the moment, so dinner on knees.
To the left of the window is an integrated freezer and next to that is an integrated fridge. To the left of that and to the right of the small wood burning stove is a larder unit which houses tins and dried food. All my plates and other crockery are in the unit to the left of the small door which is to the right of the eggs (have 12 rescue hens and Boris the cockerel). There's an integrated dishwasher to the left of the main sink and the microwave is tucked under where the kettle is and the ovens are next to that.
The flooring is travertine, which I think is a form of limestone. I got it from here: http://www.pricespaving.co.uk/product/antique-pewter-tumbled/ and as they say in the description, it is very low maintenance and does not show the dirt easily!
The lights, I am ashamed to say are pool table lights from ebay.
Some mistakes I made, though: the main sink was fairly expensive (to me!) and has very square corners which need extra cleaning. Also, the taps are too close to the wall which makes cleaning behind them tricky. I have very hard water as am on a borehole in a limestone part of Yorkshire, so limescale builds up really quickly. Would I have stainless steel worktops again? Probably not, but I do love them, they are so practical. Also, the two chairs at the end of the island near the window are too tall to sit comfortably on - oops! They are there for the time being until I can find somewhere where they do fit. I was supposed to have had an integrated bin, but for some reason that did not happen, so my bin is free standing by the island.
Anyway, hope this helps, but I do love the colour of your proposed kitchen and I love the layout and matching of wood and marble. If I were to repaint mine, it would definitely be your colour! Do let us all know how you get on.
