Are the white facades smooth stucco?

I was wondering if the light colored areas of the exterior of the home were done with a stucco or plaster or something similar? Any information you can provide about the material would be greatly appreciated :)

Yes, it is a stucco system. We chose to do a 3-coat system with lath and a smooth trowel finish using a drainage plane behind the lath to allow the wall to breathe better and not retain moisture given the humid southern climate. Good luck with your project!

Agree with Oneplan about the glazed porch so you don't lose light, think you should let her draw up elevation plan for builders. Agree with people telling you to play up the asymmetry. Also think you should have a tame( not rampant) flowering climber up the posts around the porch. Something that tolerates shade. If has thorns may discourage kids climbing up on porch roof.

Dear Jill, Buying a property is a serious financial commitment. I would not hesitate to get a quote or even several preferably from the local tradesmen. You need to factor in the costs associated with these or any other works you intend to do outside or inside the house. This house is very impressive with lots of character. I love the symmetry of it, entrance, large windows and overall proportion. I would rather restore and preserve the original features than paint over. I have had lots of nice comments on my house. Thanks everyone. I would add that I love the 1970's houses the big windows and open concept groovy style. However, the technology to pull it off wasn't quite there when they were built. If you are updating a 1970's house think about how you can introduce more insulation. I did the following: - internally insulated external walls with 10cm of wool. - insulated between floors (keeps things warm and prevents sound) - installed triple glazing and insulated behind the cladding. My heating bills are now minimal

Not sure how it works in the UK but in France if you are changing the appearance of your house that is visible from the road, you need prior permission. This is to avoid people doing things that are completely out of keeping with the neighbourhood, whether rendering, paintwork, or windows. Here you would probably have to go with cream rendering and retain the tiling, in which case choose a colour for the front door that picks up or contrasts with the brick/rust colour. My own first priority for the outside would be to deal with the garden, which you are very lucky to have, to get things in before the winter. One idea would be to get rid of the tiny patch of grass and lay thick gravel (not attractive to cats) plus a retaining path, create a simple structure to hide your dustbins (and bikes?), and invest in a couple of huge pots with some permanent planting and spring bulbs.
