Downstairs guest toilet
Comments (18)Jonathan - that is exactly one option we're considering. The only 'downside' is that it breaks up the flow of open space between the front of the house and the kitchen and back. I'll post more sketches tomorrow. To be honest all the options I'm lookin at have a downside I'm not wanting to compromise on. I realise now we always have to compromise on something. It's just a question of what I'm willing it give on. Thank you for replying. Please share your thoughts after I've posted more drawings....See MoreI have a very small cloakroom & want a toilet, urinal & Small basin
Comments (8)Personally I don’t think there is room for a urinal as well. If you think you have to have one for work you don’t. And if you have a relative who can’t sit easily then consider having a raised toilet (search comfort height WCs)...See MoreHelp! Toilet / shower Extension quandry
Comments (8)Thanks both - I really appreciate you taking the time to reply, no apologies needed! this probably what I needed to hear. I did look at a stairlift briefly also, but the staircase has a double bend so cost of the lift will be 4.5k and wouldn’t recoup it when selling, hence I started considering this extension instead, but I was thinking the extension would add some value to the house, as well as being a practical addtion. This has been causing me a lot of worry (but am a bit of a worrier anyway!). Thanks for these alternative suggestions - I will have a ponder on these, I think the main problem is the house doesn’t really lend itself to any other options due to its configuration. Somethings I forgot to mention in my original post, is that the garden is north facing, so that side of the house isn’t particularly bright anyway (mainly moss rather than grass growing where the proposed extension would be). It did occur to me that it might affect the light, as I would then only be getting the light in from the kitchen window, and whatever light can come in from the back door window once turned, which will be less than the back door’s current position. I did very briefly consider the front of the house, however the porch is too small - there is not much of a front garden to speak of, and so even just a toilet would need to be parralel to the front of the house, with the front door then having to be turned to the side instead (so similar configuration to the extension idea at the rear). Then, as I would need to extend outwards - it would also be within 30 cms or so of a council street lamp, which is right against my boundary and mean that the front of my house would stick out much further than all my neighbours so look unattractive from the front). I also thought about moving the front door to the right, but there is a gas meter there which would need to be moved, and then the front door would be very close to the window, and reduce the living room space too. Also, as we get more light in through the front during the day (as is south facing) that would make the living room a bit darker instead. There is not enough space under the stairs either (unless I build into the kitchen to access from there as it doesn’t have enough height) I have thought about extending into the garage also, however - there is no side access to the garden if the garage is converted, so would have to come through the living room /kitchen to get to the garden to dispose of grass cutttings in the summer etc, but this might not be such the massive issue I am thinking of (against the benefits of having the garage space) The living room and kitchen were originally open plan, with a breakfast bar dividing the kitchen - I have found a couple of pictures of another house on our estate with the original layout online- just incase this helps in visualising (although my house never looks as bright as this, so they may have a south facing garden instead). The last picture is what my house currently looks like from the outside - with the back door in its current position. Any further thoughts/input would be most welcome🙏...See MoreAdvice on tiles in small downstairs toilet
Comments (3)Agree with Sarah although the green herringbone tiles are so attractive I would be tempted to use them throughout. If you do as Sarah suggests then you have a lot of options for wall colour above the cream tiles. A circular brass framed mirror would go really well with the green tiles and they would be reflected as its opposite....See Moreahugh
