Comments (50)Homejoy! wow! that is expensive! My cleaning team asks €8 an hour and this includes windows (I have heard some companies do not, or they actually charge extra!!!), shutters, terrace, yard area, laundry, ironing, hauling out the recycling to a common area - light cleaning or very heavy cleaning, indoor or outdoor, all for the same €8. And they have a key to my house. They are now doing all my neighbors as well. I actually pay €10 an hour as they have to come a half hour and they are very flexible and are happy to come last minute weekends when possible. I do my own cleaning but this team does the heavy stuff (windows, shutters, cupboards, kitchen appliances, polishing the floor) every 10 days, so I am normally ready for drop in guests. I wish I had them more often!!!!...See MoreMy raised terrace or balcony dilemma. Connecting house to the garden
Comments (42)Hi original poster! I know it’s 7 years since you asked this but would love to know what you did. We are not in a similar position with a similar looking house at the back but even steeper. I know that a full extension and lowering the internal floors would be ideal but we can’t afford that and need a 5-7 year fix. Please let us know what you decided and why ☺️...See MoreTop tips when selling your property?
Comments (41)Hello @The Picture House. Thank you! Just to touch on your point, I don't agree at all really. I think most people want to envision the property with themselves living in it, how they want to see the home. When I talked about what I look for, it was from a personal viewpoint. I don't need to see anything added to see if the place is worth something. (Not financial) I'm talking structural and aesthetics. The "bones" of the place, if you like. Also potential has nothing to do with clean, tidy, or adding a few objects, just reading your pointers. Potential isn't styling, it has to do with architectural details and the capacity for renovation or restructuring. If that is what is sought. For that you need an eye for these details and there are a lot of people who are very clued up and interested in this area. Talking from experience that is. I think the problem with selling, is knowing your market and who you're selling to. Knowing your property and how to market it (at the time) to its fullest potential. Marketing your property for who you want to sell it to. So whoever it is can see what they can add- if at all! However, what a client is looking for from their purchase will largely dictate the type of property they seek. Interestingly some "interior designed" property renovated for sale are some of the worst examples of boring, bland and unimaginative. I would argue the use of the term "Interior designed" It comes down to style and taste which is diverse and individual. Displaying the architectural elements to their fullest. In short, it takes.. Charisma! AJ...See MoreWhich room should be which in a 5 storey Georgian terrace house?
Comments (30)I agree with Jonathan that the original proportions and symmetry will be important for keeping a wow factor. The house may originally have had two living spaces on the first floor so you could consider using one room there as a study. If you are a doggy family, a boot room in the basement might be useful if you can enter the house at that level. I would be inclined to have a separate laundry /ironing room on an upper floor if you don’t hang washing outside to dry. In a house this size you could consider a cinema/ computer games room in the basement if you would use it. Are you wine buffs - how about a wine cellar? Future owners can use the rooms for different things to you if they are generous enough sizes. It is important that you get to use as much of the house as suits your lifestyle as well as having a good number of bathrooms for whatever number of bedrooms you end up with. Do you entertain much? If so, would you use a formal dining room. Are you musical? Do either of you have hobbies like painting, crafting, woodwork? Do you collect things? If your living room is on a separate floor from the kitchen, how about having a tea/coffee making facility and a drinks fridge in a cupboard on that floor?...See MoreWineOhh
