Where can I find this backsplash tile? Can you suggest an alternate?
This is NOT my house but I love this backsplash. I'm looking for a backsplash that is light and airy, and interesting. Even though I'm looking for something modern/contemporary, this still appeals to me. Most people seem to recommend glass mosaic, but I've had it in my last home and although I liked it at the time, everyone I know seems to have it and I could use some change. Are there other options? Stone? Maybe an interesting way to lay out tile but combine with glass? Here's my kitchen (pardon all the clutter).
I have dark reddish brown cabinets and quartz reflections counter tops along the perimeter. The island has black drawers and Alaska Denali granite.
Would a traditional looking mosaic like the one above look too odd? I think a light colored backsplash would work better, but how would a dark one look?

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoWith the dark cabinetry and wood floors I would definitely use a lighter shade for your backsplash. This crackle tile has a bit of black to compliment your counter, is unusual and if you want to make it really different, lay in a herringbone pattern.

Comments (32)Tiles are one way to introduce some pops of colour in your kitchen. If you are worried about the grout discolouring, use epoxy grout which is more resilient to liquid staining. Also, if you use a coloured grout, discolouration will be less noticeable. If you choose textured tiles with rectilinear edges, grout lines are almost invisible. Using tiles can look more traditional compared to glass or stainless steel. The problem with stainless steel is keeping it looking good. Drip marks and grease are instantly noticeable. Glass is less obvious when splashed. They are both more industrial and modern looking. What about using the same material that makes up your worktop as the splashback? Comments (4)HI Jodg, Microcement is what you should look into. Its seamless, so no worries about trim. When applied by trained applicators it's completely waterproof. It's available in over 30 standard colours, also metallic finishes. it's only 3mm thick so you wouldn't lose as much space as you would with panels. We incorporate a mesh into the base so it will not crack. Finally the sealing is polyurethane so aswell as being waterproof it is extremely hard wearing.
