Need help for my dining room

We have just bought a new build property. We have a dining room 10ft by 10ft8". We have bought the below dining set:

We are probably going to re-paint a small sideboard we own the same colour as the table legs, and then have no other furniture in there.

....And that is about it as far as we have got!

I have no idea what colour to paint the walls, whether to have curtains and if so colour / pattern, or whether to have patterned wall paper as a way of adding interest, no idea about what lighting would suit, accessories etc.

Do any of you lovely people have any ideas?

What colours and style do you have in the rest of the house and which way does the room face? The table looks a little french or English country, maybe go for this look? You could try panelling or if that's out of budget look at panelling wallpaper, there are a few around. I'd opt for a neutral palette. A light like this might work from laura Ashley or go for a more opulent chandelier. I would definitely a

dd curtains to a dining room to give it more of a luxurious feel, perhaps silk or faux silk

It is a new build, and this is the first room we have found furniture we like, so don't really have a style as yet per se - we really have a blank slate to start from which is probably why I am freaking out a little!

The house is this one: http://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/northern-home-counties/foxlow-grange/foxlow-grange-the-sandy-4-det so probably more English country looking I would say?

Love the idea of a chandelier, thanks for the tip about Laura Ashley!

Hi. It's hard to tell if this will work as I can't tell the door width but what if you were to build a ŵall to wall bookcase on the desk ŵall incorporating both the tv and radiator? Ignore the design of this one, was just showing a pic of one against a window, You may need to widen the pillar by the dining room entrance slightly. Perhaps ammonite by F&B for the ŵalls with a floor that picks up one of the tones in the table. I'd also paint the coving in the ammonite and a darker shade of grey for the bookcase. Have a 6ft sofa (allowing for side table and lamp) opposite the bookcase (not against the ŵall) with a chair angled in front of the bookcase and perhaps go for an upholstered stool on legs as per your inspiration pic. You could use Romans on the windows, maybe in a vertical stripe and then use geo patterns for the cushions. Re lights I'd add ŵall lights to the bookcase and a flush for the living room, preferably just 7 inches high. You can afford to hang something lower over the dining table. Are you keeping the tall cabinet? I think your current table will look lovely with some upholstered chairs

Marble would still work well in all those areas - luxurious and dramatic! A couple of points to take care with: - Take care if you're option for high gloss, as they can be slippery when wet - If you're opting for a very "white" marble (Carrara or some such), be prepared for it to show every dirty mark and need regular cleaning. If your lifestye can cope with this great - if you have three labrodors and live in a pair of Hunter wellies, I'd urge caution....

I tried to place furniture in your room, but do not know where is window or not. So I got what I got. I am sure the round dining table will be better. I just did not have it in my software. Try to move two sofas on different direction. may be both on the corner would be better. Round table is on other corner.

Hi. Its a lovely room, I preferred the table straight on where the sofa arms also didn't overlap tbh. I can't photoshop at all but it may give a very rough idea! If you want to paint then I'd go for aubergine on the dining wall and a lighter shade of the curtain colour on the rest and use green as your accent colour.. I'd put a round table between the sofa corners, I think something in white and oak would marry your dining table and tv unit but struggling to find something that's not obviously scandi in style! I'd pop a fat round lamp on there with a patterned shade with green in or a textured shade. It's hard to find something that will either fit in that empty corner or work on the long wall but this bookcase/display may work? I'd also add art behind the dining table

Yes it's quite hard work doing a house in one go! I would say take your time though, I love my house but made a few mistakes along the way being "rushed" or just not thinking properly! Do you have any existing furniture at all? Have a look on houzz and buy interior magazines to see what styles you like or just find a thing for inspiration. The table is quite classical so maybe this will work with a few neutral colours throughout the house. You can always go classical but mix with a few contemporary bits. The good thing about using neutral colours is you can easily update when you want. Textured wallpapers are also good for interest if you're not sure on patterns. Looks a great house and layout btw!
