Hi Earmbruster,

I apologize we didn't respond earlier. For your reference the footprint of the cabin is 28ft x 32ft, with a bedroom loft. The square footage is 960 sq ft.

The best compliment I have had was when I was selling my flat in London. The lady who bought it came with a friend to do some measuring and in the course of the conversation the friend said 'oh I assumed you were an interior designer' when in fact I was a harassed working mother of two! One of my proudest moments :-) The best compliment my current home has had was when I overheard a dear friend telling someone 'You should see Gerry's house, no one else has a house that looks like that, it's so creative' bless her cotton socks.

You get used to the space very quickly and just as quickly fill it up with furniture. The feeling of space is great and as a new build I doubt heating will be an issue with insulation standards. I would suggest creating a feeling of space, lots of storage and light are crucial. 1.5 acre garden is very large, especially with a baby. I used to have just under half an acre and spent forever getting no where with weeding and cutting grass. I literally planted hundreds of trees as a wind belt and for decoration and you will need a ride on mower. Does give you space for a play area, patio, veg and fruit garden etc.

I would recommend, without qualification, a Dan-Wood home. I had one built and after completion of the foundation to the Dan -Wood requirements, the first lorry from Poland, plus troops. arrived at 0700 hrs on the Monday. I moved into the fully completed eco house six weeks and three days later. All the builders were trained in the factory and worked quietly and consistently. As the build developed the trades changed to the building needs, electrical, plumbing, roofing etc. The first lorry had the downstairs sections and was loaded in Poland in the order required on site. Nothing touched the ground. The next lorry from Poland arrived within five minutes of the first leaving. The house was pressure tested on completion and lost only 2% leakage. I cannot understand why we tolerate building in silly brick sizes glued together with mortar and dependent on the 'training' and 'skill' of the labour. Everything was delivered and installed in an organised and managed way and I would be happy to discuss further if anyone is interested. Dan-Wood also took care of the planning for £600 which is remarkable. There is a 20 year structural warranty included as well. There is a prejudice against timber framed houses in the UK for reasons that escape me but these houses are factory made and everything fits, all rooms are square and exactly as the plan dimensions. Thanks guys. It's reassuring to hear that, I'm really hoping it is the case that it's just down to it not being finished and that it will look great when done. And I know the space is still a good size, but still can't help thinking that it feels shorter?!? Still worried that either (or all) of adding the opening between the lounge/kitchen, putting the wide sliding doors on, making the TV wall longer is creating a (negative) optical illusion. Would you say an L-shaped sofa would help the feeling of space or detract? Something like this... (see floorplan - is sofa too far over?)
