Do all my front windows have to be dressed the same?

I have got two upstairs dormer windows and want to have a white slatted wooden blind with tapes at one but can't have one at the other due to the way it opens, does it matter if the windows don't both look the same from the outside?!

Hi there,

It's really down to personal taste. Lots of our customers choose different window dressings for the front of their houses. Sometimes this is for practical reasons - a blind with a blackout fabric for a bedroom, for example, or a blind with slats for a room such as a living room where you might want more privacy. Other times, they'd just like a different look in different rooms to match decor schemes. As you've mentioned, you've practical reasons of your own for choosing different window dressings, so there's no reason why you shouldn't go ahead and cater to those.

Be bold and pick whatever suits your home best!

I seem to do more roman blinds for customers but it all depends on the area and if the client wants a more contemporary look. Curtains do give a much cosier feel but if the room is on the small side or if the fabric is expensive then roman blinds seem to be the answer, however after saying that some clients just do not like blinds and want to stick with traditional curtains so it is all down to what is discussed between the designer and client and if it suits the room and their lifestyle.

Laura, you could use a 10mm ripplefold track for sheers inside the reveal, it would cut out some vision width-ways, but would give you screening. Your windows open outwards which is a bonus. No nick-nacks on your windowsill with this though! Your radiator is not in an ideal location, (well traditionally it is thought to be so!). A curved track on the wall would be good if you have stack back space either side. Pamela is correct Silent Gliss would be a good choice. If you want lighter curtains you could use a 'uni' - unlined fabric or use a very light interliner matched to your fabric. Bradley do a 'French' pole which curves back to the wall. If its a living room then probably its your evenings that concern you. A sheer will still give you some privacy, & cut out some sunlight if needed. Double poles are available for two treatments, this is standard in high end or hospitality. Try Nya Nordiska Lana Lino for a wool sheer that doesn't stretch and hangs well.

Hi Lauren! I worked on a project with a similar situation! The windows were in a spare bedroom, so ideally they really did need to be covered at night time, however only when people were staying over. We had venetian blinds made for the standard rectangular window, then for the 2 angled windows, we produced a 'shield'. Basically, we got our joiner to make two shields which were templated to the same shape as the window reveals, with a handle in the centre, which then hooked on to the window. So they could be taken up and down as you wish. They were produced in oak and finished the same colour as the rest of the joinery and blinds, with a handle in pewter to match the rest of the ironmongery in the house. Unfortunately I don't have ay photos of the shields, but you can see the window, and the hooks that the shield mounts on to! We found this to be the most simple, unfussy option, and you are still able to see the windows in their full glory. The shields are kept in the cupboard when not being used. I hope this helps! There's another small one on the far end but this is the main radiator. Hmmm it's really interesting that your room is cosy as i've gone to trusty google and can't find anyone who says that radiators don't block the heat. It seems to be a big no no. I'm just so torn between function and fashion. I know it sounds silly. I think part of the problem is it is such a huge window that i would need more than one blind which would look a little odd. Then it isn't a usual height window in that it's quite close to the floor.
