Glazing

Really beautiful house. Could you please tell me which glazing company worked on the project? The frames on the fixed windows and slim profiles on the doors are exactly what we're looking for so I'd love to know who you used. Thanks!

Triple glazing and acoustic glazing can actually be one in the same thing. Acoustic glazing is a make up of certain panes of glass to stop what ever decibel your trying to stop. You first have to work out the amount of noise you need to stop and then we can come up with an accounting value make up to stop the noise. I have standard make ups for certain areas if you want to contact me I can come up with a viable solution for you !! Regards Anthony

We have a large rooflight at one end of our 8m south facing extension which gets the morning east sun and another at the opposite end - so nothing in the middle. I don’t find the rooflights too hot - they are just normal triple glazed lights. The hot part is the doors as they are fully glazed across the whole back ie 6m. We get sun all day and it can get very hot. I would initially suggest looking at solar coating (the proper stuff isn’t cheap - maybe £140-180 per door panel?) to reduce the heat in the first place. Not so bad if you don’t have that many windows/doors. Alternatively individual roller blinds for each panel that are designed to reduce the heat but still alow sunlight in. You can lower them midday when it’s too hot. (we will be doing this for next year as it’s cheaper than building a full permanent structure!) Or a wind out awning of course which is more flexible.

I am guessing you need the door and window in situ as the porch extension is not insulated. I think all the red brick inside the porch make it look dark when looking out through window/door so you could either paint the brick a lighter colour or plaster board and paint over the brickwork which would give you a level of insulation as well. This will give you a lighter aspect. You could then change the door from hallway to porch to something more modern like the oak and glass internal door on the other pic. Then look to change the window configuration to a one piece of plain or obscured glass removing the little opener as it looks wrong on an internal window.
