Comments (5)We have three. In the living room it is some candles, a mantel clock, the kids graduation photos and some dried yellow rose petals in a small glass container from when my mother passed away (yellow roses were her favorites). In the kitchen it is just some candles. In the family room it is some candles, some framed pictures I took of flowers and some antique fishing reels and lures that I have collected. Just a few, not too many....See MoreI have an old fashioned dado rail in hall and up stairway how do I mak
Comments (8)I would make a feature of it; it adds character and structure and takes the eye sweepingly along and up which is good for adding a sense of space. Could you paint it a colour that ties in with something else - the flooring or a rug, for example? Or you could put patterned wallpaper or a different colour paint below and a lighter shade above it. You could also hang pictures in the feature shapes above though if they aren't original I'd be tempted to get rid of them. I'd move away from the rather feminine and twee decoration and make it bolder, stronger....See MoreBathroom with a picture rail? Good or bad idea?
Comments (11)If you are going to fully tile with a large tile then I would tile to the same kind of height as the picture rail but have a steel tile trim instead. If your intention is to have a traditional bathroom with the skirtings and picture rails then I would probably favour wood paneling rather than tiles although more traditional tiles (likely smaller) would also work....See MoreMirror solution for low picture rail over mantlepiece?

One of the worst accidents I had years ago, was on a mirror that was leaning on a shelf. It, for whatever best reason known to itself started to slip as i was standing in front of it. I pushed it away from myself and my daughter standing behind me, only 3 at the time. The frame broke and my thumb ran straight down the side of the mirror cutting it to the bone and severing the tendon! Make sure all mirrors are safely attached to a wall somewhere!!...See More- 10 years agolast modified: 10 years ago
