What colour and make of stain did you use for the parquet floor? It is lovely and we have parquet in southfields that we want to sand and stain thanks

Hi I've now laid two floors and finished them differently. Advice I can give is to use a tungsten scraper to clean of the side of the tongue and grooves. The bitumen side as long as it's not very think can be left as the adhesive can handle this. I used Lecol and has been great, no issues. And on sanding to use a belt sander and a trio. The trio is get as it has multi directional pads, perfect for herringbone. I used an Osmo thinned oil (as I have teak wood) which made it darker. Second floor I've used a water based varnish so much lighter. At some point I'll get the to re sanding and varnishing using the water based to get the same colour. Hope that helps a bit

Hi Barney, That sounds fab and I'm sure it will look beautiful. Just a quick comment on parquet / herringbone tiles after some recent experience on our renovation project, you probably know this already but I didn't and it ended up as quite an expensive learning for us; cutting tiles to a herringbone pattern is super time consuming! No problem if you get a fixed price upfront or are doing it yourself but having just had our new walk in shower tiled (2m x 1m) in a herringbone pattern I was astounded by how long it took and the complexity of all the 45 degree cuts! It looks stunning but I selected the tiles and pattern with aesthetics in mind and definitely with no comprehension of the cost implications :) Best wishes, Claire

The image shows two slightly different floors and I don’t think that looks terrible. However the advice stands to consider an LVT such as Karndean for practical reasons you need a hardwearing floor in a kitchen and since it isn’t brittle like ceramic tiles, isn’t cold like stone, it’s say to clean with a steam mop meaning no need for chemicals, and it’s easy to make a repair if you ever managed to damage it (which isn’t easy).
