What neutral colour would go well with ochre on walls?

What neutral colour would go well with ochre on walls? I'm thinking a deep matte ochre, neither greenish nor reddish.

Will it be all a bit same-y? You need a pop of dark blue or green to set off the existing ochre.

I like a mid grey with ochre. Maybe post a pic of your chosen paint colour. Is it going on all walls? Are you looking for the neutral for sofas, carpet etc??

Thanks so much for your comments! The walls and door frames are currently white not cream my apologies for the bad lighting, the bedspread isn't normally on, it's my back up for when my normal one is in the wash! The bedspread is normally cream with gold trim. The birds and flowers on the wallpaper are actually gold which is why is suggested that colour as is the frame on the mirror. It's a very subtle washed down gold nothing too in your face!

Hello, I'd love to upload a pic but the app is not letting me at the moment. It's a hall and was thinking the bottom half of it (it's already divided with skirting, creating a "panel" look) should be ochre and the top one in a light neutral (UK, not much natural light). The carpet on stairs will be an ochre / old gold colour.

I do like the idea of inverting the colours: lighter for the bottom panel and ochre for the rest, but I'm afraid of it being too much ochre and eventually i would have to paint ochre upstairs too. The bottom panel is about 1 metre high.

Oh ok! i still vote for grey with ochre however if the hall is really dark it won't work. As you're having an ochre carpet maybe an idea is to have the panelling grey with a grey and ochre patterned wallpaper above? ITs hard to find images but just a couple to show the colour combo

Hello, thank you for your reply, that looks very nice, but I can't apply wallpaper because I already have some ( I'm painting on textured wallpaper, from previous owner), don't have money or time to remove and redecorate, so will keep it simple for now.

I do like how grey looks in contrast with ochre. Thank you for the images.
