Does anyone have any tips on using gold in a master bedroom without it looking cheap and gaudy. We have beautiful walnut furniture and at the minute it's a very cream room it's lovely but I'm trying to brave some colour. What do you all think of gold and how would you use it in a room.

B and q do a metallic gold wall paint, I had it on the walls once with the woodwork painted chocolate brown, was lovely. Some really nice gold wallpapers out just now too for wall behind the bed, also look at golden toned bedding / throws. I like it used on walls but I'm not a lover of accessories in gold such as photo frames.

Me either I always think it looks tacky but I saw a really nice gold sunburst mirror that liked n thought maybe I could do something a bit different

Hello Emmeline, Yes I like the idea of old gold... It's quite an ochre and lovely with earthy colours, charcoals, greys and browns and creams..... ... I agree though the image has not at all taken the spatial element into consideration.... It's all so one sided and right next to the window! The placement of things is typical of symmetrical styling which can be boring.... without a lot of creativity! As it is and working with what's there... and considering Maisie Moo's thoughts.. I'd move it all over... Hang the mirror over the bed landscape.. Paint the two side cabinets a matt charcoal to sit the oversized lamps on and move them further away from the bed so there is space! Replace the cushions with two large origami silk in charcoal by Nitin Goyal. Additionally just 2 of the old gold cushion and place a dark charcoal throw over the bottom of the bed to hide the end.. Sit the two pouffes at the end and put the bust on the floor next to the floor length window. This injection of charcoal will immediately lift the somewhat still bland scheme and tie in the beautiful radiator... The rug is wrong, the baskets are wrong and so are the blinds and the vase of flowers.. but that's my Amber hue on it.... : ) ) If the little cabinets were painted a dark charcoal...I'd put these knobs on too... : ))

Depends which way you'd like the room to feel but I agree with the dusty pinks and greys. I'd include a fancy mirror and lots of lights, perhaps a mirrored dressing table or console table if you're tight on space. Here's some inspiration, the wallpaper is Erika Wakerley 'angles' but I have a feeling it would be too dark for your room so I think a pale dove grey would be better.

I think a dark browny bronze is a really good colour to go with cashmere. and could also work with gold, chrome is a bit too blue. If you keep the gold handles ( I think they look really nice) then I wouldn't duplicate it too much. I would add wooden bar stools. My sister's kitchen is the same colour, she has used lots of bronze, dark browny violets and wood.

if you want to have fabric in gold, stay away from anything satiny/silky overly shiny. it ends up looking cheap

Team it with black and then you only need an accent of the gold
