Hi Vanessa, The idea using the space for an outdoor seating is a greta one, but rather than plants in pots, which can be very high maintenance, why not build some raised beds, so that you can have planting around the seating area. This would make the area feel more cosy and defined within the overall garden. A fire pit in the middle would work really well, but this could simply be a square or circular area with some a trim of fire bricks and a base of sand or hardcore which you could light your fire on top of. Sometimes simple fire pits are the best! Good luck look forward to hearing what you do.

I like how the roof has a higher pitch than the aspiration picture shown and I think your instinct to make this an upside down house will take advantage of the vaulted space upstairs. As the house has no front garden you may need to plan the bedrooms carefully to make avoid noise intrusion and ensure privacy when guests use the front door. If you are considering planning the internal layout or any extensions you may want to post a specific question as a Design Dilemma.

In my home town of Aylesbury our county offices built in 1966 is the most prominent landmark of the town, visible for miles all around the Aylesbury Vale, and recently given grade 2 listing. I think it is one of the more interesting examples of Brutalism. Locals can't say the word 'Aylesbury' without the picture of the massive structure coming into mind, although we do now have a number of other interesting examples of modern architecture which help to dilute that impression. Our local paper has featured 2 very interesting articles about it which certainly help to understand and appreciate the thinking behind the building. It has been hated by many but definitely has an important place in our architectural heritage and as the first article explains, the interior space was strongly considered by its architect, Fred Pooley.
