It is a nice piece as it encompasses a broad spectrum of colour, and as such will fit into a variety of neutral environments as shown in the photo. There are however, several tones within the artwork that sit very well with the sofa below, and I think this helps it to work. Do you have any pre-determined colours to work with?

If you want your mirror to stand out or to create more of a feature why don't you paint the middle third of the wall a deep navy, darkish but warm grey or even a darker shade colour of your chest of drawers? Will make your fireplace & stove & mirror stand out. This will give it a bit more structure and depth.. but am liking it. Any finished pictures?

Its unlikely anything you hang will get damaged because its indirect heat. That said you could use tin foil to back the art and use pin nails in each corner to 'lift' the piece from the wall slightly (so it appears to float a little). Usually the majority of the heat comes from the fire/stove itself rather than through the chimney - installing a mantle of some kind (if there's not one in place already) will cut the heat dramatically in the area above. Hi Colour Happy. Although I appreciate the beauty of art. From googling, I am seeing what you are saying is completely right. All I am looking for is an oversized beautiful abstract art painting. I am not willing to pay thousands of pounds for the fact that its stuck in a gallery. I would definitely love to meet or speak to artists direct and purchase that way. Where would one find student shows? Like the royal academy of art or something?...its also a shame that some artists are stuck and hence contracted to galleries - the mark up seems ludicrous!... im very keen to go on a search mission!! :)
