Help Ideas please

I have an island top in my kitchen with one side full of hobs if I remove them as I have a range cooker now what could I put in the space where the hobs were approx 1.5m

Can you either replace the worktop- or have a wooden chopping block cut to size so that it covers the old job cut outs - ie 1.7m x .59m or if you bake a lot - a marble or stone area for pastry rolling could be good there too - make sure you add some strengthening elements underneath!!

I'm not sure if they're more fashionable? My personal preference is typically rectangular. Tiles laid in a grid pattern means you get a long grout line and leads your eye onwards so makes the space feel bigger. Laying them diagonally means you still get the long grout line but you don't "see" the edges so it feels bigger still. Large tiles are generally much better to create the feeling of space, less grout lines so less busy. It does mean your floor needs to be really level though. You also need to be careful tHat it doesn't become busy by the number of cuts needed for the tiles though!

Swveng, 20 ft x 8 ft is a difficult space to create one space. If I'm not mistaken, there would have been a wall about where the TV is now sited and a second working fireplace. Is it possible to remove the chimney breast where you no longer use a fire? This may involve removing the stack right up through the house and roof. If it's a possibility, you will gain more space at that end of your lounge and in the room above as well. You may also want to consider dividing the spaces again with a new stud wall. Should you keep the long space open and remove the chimney breast, the TV unit could be moved to that spot. Another 2 seater sofa could be positioned facing into this area at right angles to the brown sofa to create a TV viewing area. The other end of the room with the bay window could have the easy chair in the bay plus a games table with chairs in front of the fireplace. This can be a homework area as well for the family. Once you work out how to use the space and which furniture pieces you want to retain , if any, then you can decide the colour scheme.

Hi Loula, I would probably start with a geometric rug in grey and white. A shape mirroring that of the chair detailing. This will also still be crisp and contemporary like the rest of the space. Cushions in white will help tie the colours throughout the space rather than just having blocks of it. A large piece of art of work in the same colours on the wall behind the dining table would really work.. maybe a peaceful seascape to add a bit of tranquillity to an area for relaxing. Finish with a few accessories on the table and beside the TV to help bridge the gaps. Grey is a great contemporary colour that will work well with the scheme you have started. You now just need a few more layers to really bring it to life. At the end, as Liz suggested, you could add a single punch of a great colour to add a little warmth - my suggestions would be burnt orange or a deep rich purple. Perhaps you can design an extension of your home for a fourth bedroom. Of course, you'd have to talk to an architect and someone who knows a lot about drainage. If you block or clog the drain when building or pouring the floor with concrete, it could cause your home to begin to collapse. Drainage protects your home from going underground, you know. The water must have somewhere to go. When my neighbor poured concrete under his kitchen, everything became clogged, and he had to call in specialists from drain cleaning in Toronto. He was very upset about his mistake. So be prescient and don't make these mistakes.
