Honestly, £1,000 isn't that bad for the laborious and hideous work they have to do, but get a couple of quotes. I wouldn't do the stairs - sandblasting is too strong for them anyway and I think you can still see the nice wood grain in them. Perhaps you can put a runner up them. Do the ceiling beams, the lintel over the fireplace and all the dark beams imbedded in the wall. I can't really see the church seat, the seat in the fireplace or the doors, but the door in the Somerset Cottage photo with the carpet you like looks good, doesn't it? Show me more photos of the church seat and the seat in the fireplace, but you could paint the church seat the same colour as the walls, or the same as the trim in eggshell or a slightly darker shade of the wall paint..... That would lighten it up. I still don't know what your style is! Do any of these appeal? We can find the actual products once you give an indication of what you like! HI Wayne B, Glad you like one of the lights. If you go ahead and buy it come back to us and we'll do you a nice little discount. Yes sure, know what you mean, sorry to preach, I understand you are looking more at the shape of the tube for your light but how that fits onto the lamp holder part is the complex bit. And that's the bit, the electrical part I was a tad concerned about as the shade will need something to be fabricated especially for it, otherwise it won't hold that shade on to the lamp holder part. I just didn't want you to buy something that wasn't exactly right for the purpose you want it for. Forgive me for butting in if you know exactly what you're doing, I butt out again! I'm not expert at much, but lighting is something in which I have a fair bit of knowledge to share - that and eating chocolate! but as I don't share chocolate or chocolate eating it tips that may not help you. And too be fair, a choc bar a day is not helping me very much either!! Great that you are looking at using LED bulbs, you're right they are much cooler to the touch so safer in acrylic and plastic lampshades and have the added extra bonus they save lots of money on the running costs too, if your plan works that's certainly the right way to go. Well, at last we are happy with our choice, a single duvet each, all seasons type, goose down from John Lewis. My husband feels the heat, so he uses the thin summer one all year, except when it is very hot, then he just uses a sheet, or when it is very cold then he uses the thicker one. I use the winter one all year, the two together, except when it is very cold, then I add his spare one to mine, if it ever gets too hot for me in the summer, then I occasionally use the lightweight one on it's own! To make the bed look good we have a bedspread from John Lewis over the top. Regarding bedding, the best cotton fitted sheets come from John Lewis sale, they are cleverly made to stay put and they do. I have excellent cotton pillowcases which were from the late 1950's, the quality is unbeatable, my mother had a number which she hadn't used and I just wish they were still available, from memory they were made by a firm called Finlay's and they were made in Scotland. The duvet covers I am using came from John Lewis and Debenhams, both cotton and both in the sale. On our spare bed I have White Company sheets etc. and on the twin beds in the other room I have feather and down duvets from Argos and the covers were from the Sheridan seconds shop, very good quality and great value. I prefer to have reasonable quality, if I was very rich I would have freshly laundered linen bedding ironed correctly and an army of helpers to do the donkey work each day, never mind saving the planet, nor the crumpled look!

It depends on your budget and who your kitchen supplier is. As a totally bespoke kitchen/furniture designer maker I often buy the appliances. At the same time as designing the kitchen the appliances are a very essential part of the kitchen that needs to be picked based what suits you best. Your kitchen designer/maker should guide you through what best suits you and what you may wish to have. Many top end appliances such as Meile or Gaggenau and others cannot be brought cheaply, nor would you wish to buy them from anyone but your kitchen supplier/ designer. Over the years we often buy the appliances at the beginning of the project and have them in the workshop to ensure they fit (unless they are very standard or very large, but still get delivered at the beginning) and are actually delivered at the same time as the kitchen. Part of the service is that I ensure the client is happy with all the appliances they have chosen and they have been informed of all the possible choices. Sometimes I organise demonstrations or more in-depth information to inform on how the appliances work or the diffrences. Boiling water taps often need good ventalation and access for servicing and removal. Steam ovens and coffee makers are often plumbed in with the water supply needing filters which need to be changed every so often, with access taken into account. Good extraction is essential in all kitchens especially where the hob is used often especially for frying or with a Teppanyaki hob below. Some fridges need waste outlets as will as waterfeeds. If you are buying appliances your-self make sure the kitchen designer is fully involved and there are no possible conflicts - such as appliance doors not being able to fully open.
