Help with wall color In old pink bathroom

What do you think about slate gray in here? Rest of house is light gray. It's too white for my liking. Don't want wallpaper.

Hi Daisyone. It looks like there's some colour in those floor tiles (I see a lovely russetty orange but photos are not colour-accurate so I won't make any recommendations)...you could pick up on that...why not take one of the tiles to a specialist paint showroom and get some expert help / play around with colours? Make sure you look at the colour (most showrooms will have a large paint sample of each colour) against the tile and something white as well. Then you can have fun choosing toning towels and accessories!

Hi Vicky, I think painting the units will definitely make a difference to the kitchen before you have your extension done and that wont be expensive to do, a pastel colour maybe might look nice with the worktop and tiles? Also with the flooring in your bathroom, the cork i agree needs to be changed, you could look at a sheet vinyl which can be put on top of the cork but not give a perfect finish and it would have to be cut around the pedestal and tray which may be fiddly. Some less expensive tiles would work or a karndean effect flooring which can be stuck down, all those options shouldn't be to expensive to do. Thanks, good luck with it! We felt that it used the space a bit more rather than just having the furniture arranged along the walls. I like the look of the free-standing bath in the corner (something i had seen on houzz!) and it seemed logical to us with the lay out of our bathroom as to have it fully away from a wall would take up valuable space so the corner seemed the perfect compromise... behind the bath provides handy hide-away storage ;)

I like slate gray. Use FLAT paint. Use satin for window frame and think of going a shade darker.

I think I could deal with the pink, but the maroon is a bit much...........I would reglaze the walls and sink. Afterall the toilet has already been replaced with white.

You hire a company to come in prep the items and then reglaze. Check for tub refinishing. There are videos on YouTube that demo the process each company uses.

I like the lighter grays. I wouldn't want slate gray in my bathroom since it would make a small room feel smaller. Not a yellow-gray like the sample above.

I think your vintage bathroom is adorable! It seems to be in wonderful shape as well. Is this a full bath or a powder room? It has a wonderful large window that could be hung with retro inspired fabric. I think I would try to find a wonderful wallpaper with a sixties vibe but if you don't want to wallpaper then the lighter grey would work.

I like the silver color a lot! Is that wallpaper? I'm open to wallpaper actually, The more I read for this type of bathroom.

The silver is most likely a painted finish. Ralph Lauren metallic specialty paint finishes can be bought at Home Depot. If you decide to go that route you will need to paint your wall a grey base color first. At least two coats of the RL paint and then a coat with the recommended roller to finish. You will need a small natural sea sponge to do the corners. Watch the video on line. It would look very pretty in here , especially with you chandelier!

I was told I sometimes have that ability. Not often and not when it really counts. Glad you liked the pics. Sometimes I wish I had the old pastel tile to deal with instead of what we just replaced after many years of living with it.

Id just go with a feathery light gray. The pink and the maroon are enough

BM won't allow me to "save", but this is an interesting concept...paint the walls the same dark wine color and put color on the ceiling...

Well ladies, I hope you all hade a Happy Thanksgiving! I actually have a similar bathroom in my house only without the maroon trim! I chose to paint it brown with a maroon cast. Here's a pic. I plan to replace the vanity soon but will keep the tile. I haven't done the window treatment yet!

I'd go with very misty soft gray paint, not dark or assertive, with slightly deeper gray trim.

Before re-coating your old fixtures, consider simply replacing them. Many remodelers would love to have your gorgeous original burgundy sink!

Haha, I had that exact pink! and that floor. Get this, I had the magenta in a half bath with aqua tile. Perhaps you can take inspiration from what i did, when we left, it was liked so much the home was sold with my improvements.

Perhaps you can benefit from what i did although it does not all exist. at that time the world was heavy into wall paper (edging? - forgive my mind) for the bathroom that was pink with a darker brownish pink, I did magnolia blossoms and greens. They were creamy with lots of greenery and the faintest hint of a pink accent. Above this, I painted an amazing color Behr Cottage White. It covers anything and has this ability to tone down pinks, just incredible. You simply must try a sample. In my horrible half bath aqua/magenta trim, I used bright tropical florals That i usually would not use. Then i painted cottage white again. Amazing difference. it was like it was meant to be. So all you need is something to replace that wallpaper border-aha i remembered! Peel and stick tile? Wallpaper also comes in easy remove peel and stick now?

I love the idea of a silvery shiny color for the bath, however I think it should be mother of pearl like color. Almost white, very pale pink or very, very light gray.

Please don't try wallpaper. I have done that & aside from being the very hardest room to paper I could never get it off when I tired of it. I would love to see your room done with the mother of pearl finish & continue to embrace the original great finishes you already have in the bath.

You could add some wild print of the period for the shower curtain & be sure to add a print with a flamingo or two. And an orchid.

I think you should think about reglazing as well. The pink is cute, but the maroon dates the room.

However, if you don't reglaze - I think wallpapering is the next best solution. Rather than ignoring the pink and maroon, you need to embrace it when you wallpaper. A little dash of maroon or pink in a white, off-white, grey or taupe grounded floral, geometric (or whatever design suits your personality). If you don't want to invest in wallpapering (maybe it's a rental, or maybe you're going to move within the next year or so) - think about removeable wallpaper. I think the best options are on Spoonflower. They sell removeable and regular wallpaper. All you need to do is select the pattern and order a sample. You can search their data base for designs that you like (say - Elephants) and Elephant designs will come up. Sometimes the colors don't correspond with what you need. In that case, you can contact the designer and for an additional price, they may be willing to change the colors to work for your project. Good Luck!

I would replace the sink if possible. I have used Epoxy appliance spray paint as temporary fix for bull nose tile that clashed with new paint but new trim tile would not be very expensive at a discount tile outlet or a Habitat for Humanity re Store.
A light pearl grey would work for the paint.

If you keep your pink/maroon (I would because I love color and the vintage look) I'd let it stand out. Use a pale gray (silvery if you like) wall color and paint the trim just a little darker or a little lighter (almost white). If you want more vivid accents you could choose some great curtains or a piece of art to light the room up.
