Hi Sana, thanks for your question. Yes the worktops in this kitchen are solid Iroko wooden worktops.

I love wood counter top's even though they are more work than laminate. There are a number of things you can do to help make life easier in the long run though: The blackening around the sink is a common issue but can be resolved by getting a deep under-mounted sink which means water won't sit and pool for long periods of time. http://homefixated.flashpointstudio.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/3043998820-L.jpg http://www.iichekanpur.org/charming-butcher-block-countertops-for-kitchen-furniture-inspiration/wood-butcher-block-countertops-with-white-sink-and-cabinet-for-kitchen-decor-ideas-2/ Use mineral oil every day for 2-3 days when the worktops are new until the wood stops absorbing it. The use a natural mix of organic beeswax and mineral oil - reapplying every couple of months. This will form a food save protective layer that will keep them looking good. You'll see if you put a drop of water on the top it'll simply bead rather than soaking in. If it where me, I would go for an oak worktop, it would look lovely with the cabinets and wall colour and then maybe a light creamy colour tile/ tile effect all the way through instead of the two different floorings :)

I don’t see why they should stain and have material flaking off. We’ve not fitted Zenith solid laminate but have fitted Evolve so perhaps that’s another option for you. All I can comment on Evolve is that they are hard, very hard when trying to cut them regarding fitting. Never had an complaints with the Evolve brand. Don’t forget wooden worktops need maintaining. Perhaps look at an alternative like Mirostone?

Hello, I think solid wood worktops look stunning. I had them in my old house and for the 2 years I was there I did not have to re-oil them at all because I looked after them well. I did not put anything hot straight on to them and I made sure all water and splash marks were wiped down straight away. One good thing about wooden tops is that if you do mark them you know it will come out by sanding and re-oiling them. You already know that wooden worktops are not as practical as quartz but they do bring warmth to an interior and look really striking when paired with the right colours. If this is what you have your heart set on then go for it but I would advise taking extra care with having children. You may decide that you want to have a quartz top in the areas where you have got your sink and hob and then keep the wooden tops to an area you do not use so much. I use wooden overhangs a lot in my designs where I have got casual seating such as on an island or breakfast bar. This works really well and does look really effective especially if you have got other bits of oak or walnut within your kitchen.
