Need help with my dining room

The room is 12 x 10. It gets the morning sunshine. The floor is an oak floor. the dining table is going to be a Skovby table and chairs with matching sideboard all in oak. What colour should I paint the walls? I want it to be warm and cosy. Should I paper one wall?

Hi.

Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up an area I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking point to the room....

Please check out my website if like the idea and please get in contact, commission work is also welcomed so if you like a particular style I can do in a select colour palette and size but with this it can only be done as a original piece and not a print.....but all prints i can do to the same size or smaller than my original paintings, so lots of options.

Do NOT hang art higher- its at the right height. Normally I would not recommend hanging a mirror in the dining area ( who wants to catch yourself eating!) .... but it would bounce a bit more light around. But I do love the turquoise painting. The two chairs by the window look lost and do not relate to the rest of the room, they need a little table between them, also the little cushions on them disappear- what about some aqua cushions here? I would definitely hang a mirror on the wallpapered wall opposite the windows to reflect the views and break up the busy pattern. The rug by the sofa is nice but a bit matchy matchy with the wall and sofa. I would break it up with a warmer neutral like a sisal rug. But of course I am basing my coments on what colours I can see on my monitor! Your home is already beautiful and you have good taste so choose what you want from any advice given here!

Yes it's quite hard work doing a house in one go! I would say take your time though, I love my house but made a few mistakes along the way being "rushed" or just not thinking properly! Do you have any existing furniture at all? Have a look on houzz and buy interior magazines to see what styles you like or just find a thing for inspiration. The table is quite classical so maybe this will work with a few neutral colours throughout the house. You can always go classical but mix with a few contemporary bits. The good thing about using neutral colours is you can easily update when you want. Textured wallpapers are also good for interest if you're not sure on patterns. Looks a great house and layout btw!

hi ! lining up the sofa to a feature such as a fire place is a good start... but if moving the door complicates issues then maybe it might be easier to move the fireplace ? As it looks like its not got one at the moment ? so you'd be putting it in anyway ? personally i like a pair of chairs and a decent height table betweeen them in a bay ... somewhere to play chess etc ... its tricky to comment more without room sizes ... if the fire you are thinking of is a faux one, I'd suggest maybe consider sofa on existing tv wall, and tv/ fireplace on internal wall might offer up another option ? that way you could maybe have seating on the wall between dining and lounge and the external wall, and bay ? its quite nice to see seating when you walk in a room, (with pics above ) and then get the bonus of a feature like a fireplace when you are in there ! ...changing the internal doors to glazed might give a bit more light into hallway which might be nice ! if current are fire doors though - then keep as they are! ( if it has ground floor and more than one upstairs level they will / should be fire doors )

Acid yellow works very well with teal blue (booth seat) and grey, for the wall pattern design I would complement the yellow with either the grey or blue (grey I think would work better, then you can accent the teal blue around the room) Using three key colours is my preference for any room.
