Are you a white kitchen lover? I need your help.

I'm gutting my kitchen (actually, the entire townhouse). I'm putting in white shaker cabinets. In the vendor's photo above, they call the cabinet color a bright white, but it is a soft white (the photo is misleadingly). In person, the color is white and doesn't have obvious undertones, but it definitely is not a bright white.

I plan to paint the house trim/baseboards the same color as the cabinets.

I need help picking a white or off-white paint color (e.g. BM white dove) for the walls. What do you recommend? I also need help deciding if the ceiling color should match the walls or the trim. What do you think???

(The townhouse only has 8 foot ceilings. The quartz counter top will probably be soft white with some gray in it.)

theres no need to go matchy-matchy on every single thing! keep the ceilings and trim a bright white, otherwise it looks on the dingy side. white cabs, white trim, wht counter top, white ceiling, white baseboard,,,,whew,,,Going to look like a surgical room! That's a lot of white. If you match your wall paint to the cabinet paint, then everything is just going to blend into a giant off-white blob. Consider doing a nice gray on the walls so the cabinets stand out a bit. Keep your trim/baseboards white. I made the mistake once of using "biloxi" (Behr) on mine and it just looked 'dim' after awhile.

The easiest way to match your cabinets to the wall colour is to unscrew a cupboard door and take it to a paint store to match it. They can do that easily. It is much easier to do that than to pick a colour. Alternatively, you would have to go and get lots of samples and try and match it.

It is nice to make the trims a different white but in high gloss. I recommend using a half or quarter strength of the wall colour so there is a contrast. Use that same colour for the ceiling but make it a matt paint, not gloss. Does that all make sense? Hope so. All the best and reach out if you need.

Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light

Colour choices really do depend on a number of factors, but any colour tile will work alongside white and grey. You could even consider patterned tiles to add more interest. Are you hoping to achieve a certain look? What colour are the walls? Which style of tile are you considering, and what accessories (lighting, for example) have you chosen? Hopefully these questions will help you decide....

Hello Anna, lovely bed! if it were me I would go for an Art Deco feel in your scheme to make the most of the sumptuousness of the bed. Venetian glass fronted furniture, crystal chandelier/lights and rich textured soft furnishings to complement and contrast with the bed. If you have room for a chair, something easy to relax in covered in a velvet or chenille. I would probably add artwork above the bed in bold frames too. Have fun!

Lovely kitchen! What are the measurements of your island and the measurements of your light fitting? Is the light in your photo hanging over the island right in the middle? So if you have a single pendant then the electrician just replaces it or will the new light have to be re-aligned to the middle of the island and the existing light 'hole' will have to be plastered/ filled up? Another thought it is, if you have a heavy light fixture, you might need extra support within the ceiling, I remember my electrician asking me what sort of pendants I was having over the island and if they were heavy then they may require extra support within the ceiling by using/ attaching the cables to noggins if the cable was in between joists. I guess anything is possible, messy job usually means you will end up spending more money, does he mean messy job for him or messy job in terms if you have to get the ceiling re-skimmed, painted etc? If the room above is carpeted, you could take the carpet up, take a couple of floorboards up and he could do the cables from the room above? That would be easier for him but a disruption for you. I still don't understand why it would be that messy for him, as long as there is an exisiting cable and light ( which there is ), I'm sure he could use that to create 2 more extra lights as they will be using the same switch. Then again I'm not an electrician lol, just going by my experience from my recent building works :-).

I agree that you may want to add contrast somewhere. If you do want an exact match it is possible that Bright White is actually a Lowes paint colour. It might be worth checking into as we found out.

We ordered Masonite interior doors at Home Depot. When I asked about having them factory painted we had the option to choose one of 3 Behr white paint colours. Behr elegant white was a pretty good match to our BM cloud white. We purchased their paint for the trim around the new doors and are very pleased.

It was much easier than running around with paint chips and we didn't have to paint 5 panelled doors!

I've included a photo of a kitchen that I did with white shaker cabinets and calcutta grey quartz on the island. The ceiling paint is BM white ceiling paint and the trim is BM white trim paint. I would suggest painting the walls something other than white. You will need a contrast against the white cabinets. It's ok that the trim will be a different white than the cabinets. The walls in the photo are SW sea salt, it looks like a soft green but in some lights it looks grey. Beautiful color.
