Too much yellow on too many walls
Comments (3)White, black, chocolate, and strangely enough also stone/ pale taupe ( in small quantities) are looking well with the newly yellow walls in our sitting room, metals used in the room are gold and some antiqued brass: both warm like the yellow itself. But also I have seen bursts of orange looking good with yellow on Houzz. Or more traditionally blues and whites have always looked well with yellow....See MoreToo much faff and expense? Comments (9)A S. That looks like a great idea, actually if we kept bathroom the same (it's already been newly done) and left the external wall into the cupboardy bit the same/no need for re-enforced beams and have washer/dryer stacked in the cupboard space, all we would need is the support between kitchen and living room which would work out much cheaper than I think my initial model would be (and possibly a little more practical too, and possibly more value) Here is a bit of a prototype of the size of the space we'd have to play with, I think it would be big enough for our needs (not massive amount of worktop space which is something we'd hoped for, but really I think it's enough) and also some space to fit a small table and 4 chairs in front of french doors and means not having to rip out whole of bathroom downstairs. I think I may take some advice from temple274 too, and instead of building whole bathroom upstairs and trying to readjust windows, I'll just make a small ensuite in top right corner of bedroom 2. I've seen little porthole windows you can get, but equally like temple274 says all I'd really need is adequate ventilation. All in all I think this new plan is better and more cost saving than the original!! I knew coming here would be a good idea! Comments (15)Hello Gabby, The Kardean finish you picked looks lovely. I would definitely stick with it. And if you really love the table, there is no reason not to keep it. I sometimes find it's better not to have your wood finishes so match matchy. It's good to see different tones, rather than similar ones that don't match. Having said that, there are stains that will help whiten the wood tone on your table, so it can be slightly paler and less orange. It does mean sanding the table down though. https://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/osmo-oil-stain?gclid=CjwKCAjwnf7qBRAtEiwAseBO_GePBLSuDPhBdtDxbuDiEWE56IV4YoyTBg1nzuUPhSM8S5LuMNwzkhoCmM0QAvD_BwE Is your husband handy? If so, this can be an option? Otherwise, you can consider adding a table runner to the table and dress it up with plants. A rug is also a great idea. I wouldn't worry too much about spillages. If you get a flat weave rug that isn't made of 100% wool, they tend to be pretty easy to clean nowadays. Below is a reference image. It's a round table (not a rectangle), but hopefully it is helpful....See MoreKitchens - do people put aesthetics over planning & function too much?
Comments (2)I do think some people are more fussed about how it looks and perhaps when the kitchen is done it is then they find out that 'that bits annoying, should have put that there, theres not enough room for x, there is no socket here, theres not enough room to pull out the chairs, ...... ' Kitchens are expensive and really need to be well thought out in advance. Not all kitchen designers are great, I planned my kitchen better than any of the kitchen planners I saw. However thats probably because I read up an awful lot on how to make a kitchen work/what to do/what to avoid etc...See MoreUser
