9'3x4'5ft skinny bathroom! What would you do?

I am hoping some of you could offer some opinions on the bathroom situation I have! its very narrow and small but I really want to build some character into this room.

Its a flat in a Gothic Victorian house with high ceilings, it's a full refurb and I'm thinking navy, dark grey or similar and antique looking furnishings as the flats style

I ideally wanted to have a roll top bath and incorporate a shower in this. My builder said a roll top is wasted in this space and it's too small a room. What do you think?

(the toilet is to be in in this main bathroom too)

I am also looking for some old fashioned type fittings and sink unit..... Any advice tips or links would be appreciated.

It. Needs sanitary ware for small bathrooms ,not a roll top ,white with silver metallics and mirrored walls or wallpaper,I had the same problem and had to get the smallest shower cubicle etc

We recently completed a major refurbishment of this former rectory, transforming all of the rooms in this outstanding Grade II listed Georgian property. Our clients requested an en suite bathroom to be designed into their master bedroom; this posed quite a challenge and required a very sensitive solution due to the original beautiful vaulted ceiling. Why not post a pic of your bathroom and suite? Colourhappys pics show that you can update bathrooms in a great way without necessarily having to go buy new. So perhaps with some clever choices the budget temporary update can be the permanent one?

You made me laugh out loud there rinq! Yeah...that one's been ruled out already :-) Here's a pic as it is at the mo: We did half an update around 10 years ago - new bath/screen/sink/taps/cupboard doors/floor - but our budget didn't stretch to retiling. The main drivers today are: to get a toilet in here new tiles (wall & floor and U/F heating) TBH, I want it to look more modern and I want a toilet. If we have to do without the separate shower, so be it.

That sort of colour and style was very popular in the 1980s. We installed a sage green one in 1985. It never looked fresh and the colour was light sapping. It has now gone to the 1980s bathroom graveyard in the sky! I personally would smash it. It really has no redeeming features 😂 There are some beautiful, simple bathrooms that you could emulate. Where exactly have you been looking? Look at some photos on Houzz and Pinterest to give you some inspiration.

I think due to the space I would forgo the roll top bath but incorporate older features in other ways; tiling, butler/belfast sink on top of a vanity unit as good storage is essential. I have just had dark grey tiles, black floor & a built in vanity made to measure & painted in F&B dark grey into my Victorian house's bathroom. This is it minus a big mirror which is now up. Good luck.

It looks like a light room so I think you could get away with a dark colour. Navy blue would look great with brass / gold taps / accents. I'd also put a really large mirror on the long wall facing you. I don't think a roll top would be wasted as such in the room as it could make a great feature under the window but it would be a bit of a squeeze!

chantelle- I love the design but thinking more brass/gold than silver. Definitely liking the picture rail and chandelier though!

Alison- clever use of space there! Love the dark colouring.

Headsters- loving the photo and definitely the sort of look I'm thinking. Where did you get the vanity from? Really nice.

love the photos, well all of them aside from the one that I have the space for. :(

i should seriously just consider just getting a shower as I know this will look better then cramming a bath in but with a toddler and a concern for resale (especially due to prime school catchment) I am hesitant. Mirrors are a great idea and I do like the shape of the bath in last photo- traditional vibe.

if you feel my pain for the bathroom situation then you will be even more saddened to know the kitchen dimensions! lets just say I had better not put on any weight as I may get lodged in cabinet to wall!

any ideas on antique looking vanity units and gold brass looking taps would be appreciated.

Hello Summer,

For a really small bathroom that wants a roll top. Have a look at the Tubby Torre - Albion... There are others but, it could work really nicely .. You can have a brassy painted finish too and compliment with brassy taps.. This would be nice with a dark paint such as Basalt by Little Greene.. Or consider tiles and textural arrangements... Continue the theme with beautiful accessories... Mirror, lighting.. Small doesn't need be be bland it can be spectacular..... :))

Re: your concerns about kitchen dimensions - is there any scope before you fit the bathroom out to look at the arrangement of space and perhaps move some stud walls to get better use from what space you have? I know it's tricky sometimes with flat conversions because sometimes you end up with narrow spaces from dividing landings etc but it might be worth looking at the layout before you spend a lot on the bathroom.

I love this Durvait bath with a shower above for a skinny bathroom (think the designer was Deana Ashby). The use of different tiles in the two 'areas' stop it looking like a corridor.

Thank you for the recommendation tamp75. The JIG Drum Round Cast Iron Bath would be a great option for this bathroom.
