Gerty, you're right. I wouldn't have "broken china" in the reach of kids...or pets! Sam, I took that photo at a flower festival. Yes, the colours of the flowers match the crockery beautifully. Apparently, it’s really easy to create - you simply put a pot upside down on a soft surface like grass, hit it gently with a hammer or mallet covered with a thick piece of cloth, then reassemble the broken pieces as you wish. Hi, I think gabions look better in a more naturalistic setting, and quite an expensive way to hide your bins. Have you thought of a bin store? They look nice and can be painted to blend with the fence. I’ve got three examples here, the first is a willow one which is the cheapest option but doesn’t last as long. The second one is polypropylene which should last some time. The last one is wooden which is very attractive but costs a bit more.

planter idea for screening / interest

Looking to plant up this planter with some light screening and architectural plants for year round interest. Modern planting style preferred. Thinking about bamboo but not sure which sort to pick as don’t want to get too high or invasive and / or grasses but worried they won’t provide screening in winter. Maybe some nice flowering perennials too for summer colour. Screening needs to be light as will take light from next door. Must be easy to maintain as I am hopeless at gardening! Bed is 9m x 1.2m deep x 0.8m high. Has irrigation fitted. Thanks in advance!
