I would stick to neutral colours as your kitchen sounds quite contemporary and anything to flashy may upset the balance. Black glass looks very elegant but a white or transparent splash back will help to open the room up. Grey is a good middle ground but too much grey can look rather drab. I would say that the deciding factor should be the size of the kitchen as black may close the room in. But it is wise in my opinion to go for the same finish as you have for the work tops. I have enclosed a CAD design of a kitchen with cashmere cupboards and a black glass splash back for inspiration. Would love to see some pictures of your kitchen!

Hi Charlie, we understand that choosing flooring can be one of the hardest decisions. The floor is one of the biggest surface areas in your room and can make a big difference to the overall look. As you're looking to keep things 'in a traditional style' and have a period property, we think a natural floor would be the best choice for your kitchen. We can't help imagining the lovely contrast a wood floor would make against the stone of that period fireplace too. If you think wood flooring is what you'd like then please be assured that engineered wood is suitable for kitchens. The stability of engineered also gives you the option to install underfloor heating. And, real oak can take withstand more than 100 years before it wears just 1mm. So even though engineered oak has a thinner 'wear layer' of real oak than solid wood, it's more stable and you can be confident that it will last you longer than a lifetime all the same. Hi Cake lady thanks for your comment. I have considered the wood effect tiles. However the kitchen adjoins a hall which has an oak laminate floor. I'm concerned the two different types of wood will clash. what do you think? Good to know they're low maintenance. I'm steering well away from gloss tiles as spent years trying to keep black gloss tiles clean in our bathroom. Finally replaced last year !

I have to agree with the other comments, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) would be a perfect floor for your home. Many people are having this type of flooring installed throughout the ground floor of their homes because it is hard wearing, easy to clean and affordable. Moduleo and Karndean are popular brands, both offer several products ranges which include a variety of wood and stone effect tiles. Alternatively take a look at Harvey Maria, they have some stunning designs that look really good in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms.
