Help for blinds in bedroom.

Hello all,

My very first post on here, so going to start it off with a good one. I have three big windows which are giving me a headache...the shape of the two outer windows are what's causing the problem.

Firstly my house is a 3 storey town house and this is the master bedroom. Currently I'm using temporary blinds which were bought for me whilst they were in the America. Currently doing the job, not necessarily the most aesthetic though. The reason the middle one is different was because the previous one got sucked out of the window so replaced it with an IKEA temp blind.

Im looking for some advice/ideas on what i could do on a permanent basis.

Apologies for the lack of furniture, its my first home. Feel free to critique or provide any other advice for the rest of the room.

Hi Tom,

Does this mean you moved in recently? If so, congratulations! This is a great open space and amazing windows. It's lovely to see so much natural light flooding the room. Also, are you planning on keeping the outside darker blinds?

Hi firstly thanks for taking the time to respond :) well I've been in for about 6 months haha! But like many of things they seem to get pushed to the bottom of the pile.
As its a bedroom I feel ill need potentially black out. As for the colours, I have grey stone/mushroom colour verticals/rollers throughout the rest of the house.

Realised I never updated this thread! After a great deal of indecision I was inspired by an instagram post I saw where someone had used a white aluminium curtain track which you could bend to fit to the bay. It's fairly invisible against the white window frames and has a small, shallow profile so it fit neatly into the gap available. I then used the same ikea ingert curtains as elsewhere in the house along with ikea black out liners (which FYI are more 'light reduction' than true 'blackout' :S). Only downside is that when the curtains are fully open they block a little bit of the windows to the sides but honestly I'm just happy to have something up now! It definitely makes the bedroom feel more finished and cosy too :).

Hi Lisa, I completely understand your dilemma, I'm moving house soon and have exactly the same type of window as you. My suggestion would be to have a Voile roller blind, as I know that you said you don't like Voile curtains. This would be a great way of keeping your privacy in the room, whilst still allowing plenty of light into your room. I'd then pair this with Dorma Window Curtain Poles (the would be to the side of the recess rather than within). I've attached images of both of my suggestions below. I like what you've done so far! My suggestion is to go hunting for vintage saris on ebay, and make a blind from that. I think they're beautiful and while they wouldn't suit every project, they certainly would suit here. You'd struggle to match the green, but cream, pale grey, or heavily embroidered with gold or silver thread would all look great, or perhaps maroon or dusty pink if you want a contrast. If your window is wider than one sari width it might take some juggling to take advantage of the most embroidered end, but I think it would be well worth it.

@ Sarah L - thinking natural linen for bedding so probably the lighter one would be better. It’s actually my son’s room and his choice was emerald green walls - he’s not that bothered about anything else in the room.

Hi Tom,

What lovely windows! There are a few things that would work well here - Pleated blinds can be made to fit unusually shaped windows, so could be very suitable. A grey or mushroom colour would lovely. You could also go for Vertical blinds to match the rest of the house - these can be made to fit sloping windows too, but don't offer the same blackout effect when with a blackout fabric.

Alternatively, shutters would look stunning. You could choose a custom colour matched to any Farrow and Ball or Dulux colour to really set things off, or go for crisp white.
