What should I do with the red wall in my living room?
Comments (51)Pam Gascoyne Hi Tom, As the focal point of the room is quite definitely the fireplace perhaps you should start with making something welcoming and eyecatching be it with candles, fake but really convincing burning gas coals in the grate or even good lighting it needs to really glow. The room is not really huge and perhaps keeping the walls light with, say, a warm very light grey with similar colour linen curtains or white venetian blinds would lighten the whole room and white bookshelves would be really excellent. A rug is essential but keep it cool too like the John Lewis multi stripe grey/neutral. A print or prints are a good idea and with the neutral scheme you could have anything you liked and pick out a pop of colour from the artwork and add to the cushions. The mirror is definitely too big and too gold. If you want to keep it hang it landscape and tone it right down dry brushing silver leaf over the gold but it’s a good place for a striking piece of artwork you like. Good luck Tom and enjoy your new room when it’s finished....See MoreHelp redecorating my dinning room!!
Comments (24)Hi, what period is the property? I would be tempted in see what's behind the plastered chimney breast where the fireplace used to be. Where the fire opening is. You may discover that theres some nice bare brick that just needs rendering or the original fire back. Get a period cast iron fire surround off Ebay (very affordable) that will fit the opening and place a couple of candles in there. it would add more character to the room than a blocked off fireplace / lifeless chimney breast....See MoreWhat to put on living room wall?
Comments (9)Hi Robin, Lovely room - I love the wall colour and bookcase! How much of the bookcase does the leather sofa block? I used to have a sofa against a bookshelf and while I grew used to it it did annoy me a bit with the wasted/hard to access shelf space! You could rearrange the furniture in the room so that the leather sofa had its back to the radiator and the seating area was in more of an L-shape rather than with the sofas opposite each other, and then put a rug/layered rugs down (which always looks nice on floorboards, at least I think!). In terms of what to do above the fireplace - I like the idea of hanging a big artwork, or photographs, or you could hang a large mirror, or both a mirror and artwork!...See MoreWhat colour do i paint my living room walls?
