Downstairs toilet/cloakroom

I have a downstairs toilet which is going to be tiled with the same time as the hallway and kitchen/diner. The walls are Dulux polished pebble in those rooms but I can't decide whether to use the same paint or something different in the cloakroom!

The boxing in will be done in tongue and groove painted in a very dark charcoal with the top being covered with sanded scaffolding board.

I have attached pictures of kitchen but the toilet itself has been ripped out and re plastered so not mi h to show.

Any paint ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I'm liking the idea of a mirror behind the toilet, I'm seeing a bit of a mirrored wall effect coming here. I'm also considering rehanging the door (thanks for the suggestion) so it opens into the utility. That would make a big difference. I like the idea of a cabinet under the sink (great way to hide pipes) but I've been worried it would make the space too cramped. Plus with the door opening into the room the sink and cabinet would take a lot of the space a person would use stepping in and shutting the door. Good news is it's actually a wooden doorframe there rather than the horrible metal frames we have in the rest of the house. I'm currently thinking of half tiling with either paint or paper (great idea thanks) on the top of the walls. Just not sure of colours. Flooring I'm thinking of something dark with warm undertones as that's what I'm going within the kitchen (North facing room plus cream cabinets I thought warm tones would be nicer). After that I have no idea. I've not yet found any cabinets so the world is my oyster. Lol way too much choice here.

Hi. I'd have the utility/loo at the top off the kitchen (front of house) so you have the whole of the back of the house opening onto the garden. I'd run the utility parallel with the hall wall and have another entrance into the kitchen (just need to be careful if using the loo!). That should give you a utility of just under 7ft deep. The kitchen would then be a long L shape and give you 17ft for kitchen/dining. It does mean taking washing through the kitchen if you hang it in the garden but personally would much rather have the open living space but depends what you prefer! I'd also put in double doors from the kitchen end too and move the others along so you have a clear view out when opening the door from the hall. Bifolds would be great across the back but obviously not cheap.

Hi, I posted some photos and floor plan on another thread awhile ago. I had to pay an additional £2K to have the elec and gas meters moved outside. Remember to include heating in the new room otherwise it will only be used 8 months a year! I have found it very useful as my elderly parents now have difficulty with the stairs when they visit and the only other loo is in the bathroom. No problems until someone wants to spend a long time in the bath or to take ages doing their makeup.

Right, so to begin with I would completely get ride of the curtains covering your selves and have sliding doors installed. The reason I say sliding doors is to help maximise your space. I would also have the walls repainted or even covered in a bold printed wallpaper - this'll help add life and character to the small space. Check out Cole & Son for some fab paper or Farrow and Ball for amazing paint. In terms of the cloakroom area, I wouldn't change much as the space is already quite tight. I would simply advise you to continue the colour/paper from the restroom throughout. Depending on your budget, I would advise you to have a smaller sink and a back to wall wc installed which will also help maximise space. Hope you find this info useful and good luck!

There is a great colour called Blackend in the Farrow and Ball Range. The Farrow and Ball paint is not of good quality, unfortunately. I am a professional decorator and have this colour mixed up in the Johnstone's range of Cova Plus Matt, which is of superior quality. If you pop down to your local Johnstones trade centre, have a look on the internet, they will be able to mix up this colour for you. Just ask. Its a brilliant colour.
