White paint for ceilings and walls

We are spraying a new house, going with white ceilings and walls. Both will be the same colour. I don't think i want brilliant white, can anyone recommend a shade I should tint to that wouldn't be too dull for ceilings or too bright for walls.

Avoid brilliant white. Just plain 'white' is a good place to start, it doesn't have 'blue' whiteners added and so tints well, if you are so inclined. And it's cheap too. Why not try a colourwash over plain white? If you fancy doing that, use a silk white emulsion not matt as your base coat - you will find it an easier surface to wash onto as it isn't 'thirsty'.

Bm white dove or Bm simply white are both great whites, perfect almost every time, I usually do Bm decorators white with those two colors for ceilings and it is a little brighter, one of those first two will def work

Unfortunately BM isn't a brand most decorators around here use.

Can anyone recommend a dulux or crown shade, suitable for walls and ceilings. Or just stick with "white?"

Agree with Colourhappy you must take into consideration flooring and aspect of room also I think that Dimity is just too pale perhaps. I would go alot deeper and suggest London Stone. You can use it with off white for skirting etc. However it will be "dark"! - you can add rug that is light coloured (cream). I attach a pic so you can see what I mean by "dark" but it is very nice i think. Oxford Stone might be a good compromise. I think you are on the right track as this set of colours has red/brown undertone.

Dulux, Moonshimmer, Frosted Dawn, Cool White, Cracked Clay 4, Chiffon white 2 or 3, Vanilla mist 1, crushed cotton 3, cameo silk 4, nomadic glow 6 , too many to mention. Go grab the colour cards and remember that the Dulux paint in our experience come up lighter! Good luck xx

Dulux 'Timeless' is a good, slightly warm off white, very similar to F&B 'Pointing' which is also very good but pricier.

What sort of a tint do you want? Dulux Timeless or Jasmine White are good if you want a bit of warmth. Crown Sail White if you want a hint of grey.

Have a look at Crown Trade paint RAL9010. It is a fresh off white with warmth. I would suggest doing ceilings, coving, dado rails, skirting boards in white though.

I would choose a white for the walls a tone darker than ceilings, it works in general better and avoid the feeling of floating in a room with less delineated volumes.
