Should I choose bifold doors with integral blinds?

We are replacing windows and doors with dark grey aluminium. In the south facing living room there is a large door into the garden which will have a 4 door bifold.

Eventually the room will be decorated in contemporary scandi style.

Should we chose to have integral louvre blinds fitted? Not sure style-wise that they fit with clean contemporary styling, and also what happens if they break some time down the line?

If yes: What colour? White, pale grey or dark grey - again thinking long term flexibility as well as current fashion.

Hi Kate,

I think you should choose white integral blinds for your Aluminium Bifolding door, they create a good contrast with the dark grey frames, they also look sleek and require no maintenance in comparison to normal blinds.

I have a solution to your design dilemma Kate! In keeping with your contemporary Scandi style, Centor Integrated Doors have blinds built into the doorframe that retract away when not in use. The blinds come in a range of patterns and colours including whites and greys (Personally, I don’t think you can go past white!). The design of the door itself is contemporary, with the locks and hardware concealed within the frames. You can choose to have oak or aluminium on the interior of the door. We moved into a house with bifold doors and I didn't want to spend an absolute fortune on large bespoke curtains for them. So I found some beautiful ones on the high street that were the correct height, then bought two pairs. I found an extra long curtain rail online and whilst I was going to originally sew the pairs together to make two large curtains - one either side of the door, I actually left them separate. This way I can pull three of the four closed but leave one pulled back on the opening side door, making access easier. Hope that makes sense!

I was at the home building and renovating show on Saturday, and came across a company that do bifold doors with an integrated roller blind that you pull out from the side like a big sheet, right across. The “handle” for the roller blind was a vertical piece of timber so when blind not in use, the handle just looks like part of the door frame(these were on timber doors) On one side of the bifolds is a the blind that pulls across, the other side was a pull across mosquito-net type thing (I guess if you want to have bifolds open on a warm evening but not get any unwanted visitors!) I was very impressed with the blinds, but they didn’t come cheap (for ~5m with of bifold with the blinds she said was £12k!) Unfortunately I can’t for the life of me remember what the door company was called, sorry!

We got ours from Apple Blinds which is local to where we are in the North West. They are battery powered so didn’t need to be wired in. They operate by remote control which is attached to the wall with a discrete bracket and looks a bit like a smart home monitor I think. They need charging only once every few months. They charge by plugging in to charger for a few hours. The blinds when open are also very discrete but you should check whether they can be attached around your window frames. I agree with others that open glass is nice but I think for security purposes it is a good idea to have something for when you are away or over night etc
