I used one of my Colron stain (do not remember know which exactly) probably light oak or Georgian Medium oak then Bona Traffic varnish matt.

To give you a wild card what about a maple laminate or even a nice modern carpet in a cream or pale grey, pale blue or pale pink. Yes you'll see what I'm getting at a pale colour of flooring would be better looking in my opinion. ( I have oak hardwood flooring with a really pale silver grey wall in my lounge I also have OHW in my hallway with Apple white walls so I concur with the oak suggestion too although I wanted maple coloured hard wood when we were decorating??!! I have to agree with the other comments, Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) would be a perfect floor for your home. Many people are having this type of flooring installed throughout the ground floor of their homes because it is hard wearing, easy to clean and affordable. Moduleo and Karndean are popular brands, both offer several products ranges which include a variety of wood and stone effect tiles. Alternatively take a look at Harvey Maria, they have some stunning designs that look really good in hallways, kitchens and bathrooms.

Hi Louisa, It depends on what you consider branded (or not). If branded is something like Kahrs or Haro or one of the several other suppliers of engineered wood flooring then their quality is good but all those floor are industry made products. Good inexpensive but a bit plain. On the other hand, non branded floors supplied by people like http://www.element7.co.uk/ are made by some of the best manufacturers in Europe, often made by hand and do look so much better than the branded floors. Then there are hundreds of other products in between but I wouldn't be afraid to use unbranded products especially if you want something a bit more personal. Best regards.

Thank you Daisy. The brands I am looking at are more around £45 to £50 per sqm which comes in cheaper than Naturally Oak - trying to work out why they are cheaper when spec is similar.
