Need help with living room!
Comments (14)Absolutely love the idea of curving the built in- that would definitely soften that corner & solve the problem of making room for pushing back the curtains. The rug came with us from previous house so I will be changing it too. Love the curved sofa in the photo above Luciana and the armchairs. We've tried the sofa in a number of places- even tried breaking it up but the shape of the room and the amount of things on each wall means that if we push it away from wall it breaks the flow of our entrance into the hallway & our kitchen. I agree that the mirror is too high- I can't even look into it!! Thanks for all the great ideas- looks like I've a bit more shopping to do!!!...See MoreHow to decide on a piece of Art for wall
Comments (97)I'd take this as a great opportunity to have some fun and explore making your own piece of art. From the space (that I can see), a canvas would suit being placed above, either leaned against the surface or elevated. I'd lead towards to being elevated. I'd say get a cheap canvas with some oil based paint and just try different shapes and different ways to add the paint to the canvas, don't try to make actual shapes but try blending colours (a spray drinking bottle makes an excellent tool for adding blending) in an abstract style. In term of colours, I really feel burnt orange and a mix between duck egg blue and royal blues would make a very eye-catching scheme for that area. If you do try a bit of art, make sure to send us an image! I guarantee you'll have fun doing this, and you'll be surprised how well it could turn out. Good luck!...See MoreOptimal layout?
Comments (26)I have thought about it this way too, but everything about the angles in the back corner of the room make the sofa being there quite difficult. As absolutely amazing and accurate (how did you do that!?) your layout is, I'd be losing an awful lot of space behind the sofa, also there's a storage cupboard under the stairs it would consequently block access to. I have to agree with you, my furniture is pretty amazing. Taken a long time to thrift/collect and it's pretty much all Scandinavian mid century. I digress, the layout is optimal now for the amount of furniture I have but I was mainly taking a photo to record the room before I get shot of some bits to make the room a little less populated. I have a matching white accent chair arriving soon, which will replace to the two green chairs. And I'll be cutting down to 4 chairs and a rectangular table to go up against the wall. I think that will look less.... Full. :P Thank you Jonathan....See MoreBudget kitchen refresh - help and advice!
Comments (16)I suggest finding a nice local carpenter to help with cabinets etc. They will be able to come up with imaginative ways of upgrading and using as much of your own things as possible. I had an ok but boring Magnet kitchen with laminate doors. I wanted new doors and after spending an entire morning in the local franchise of Dream Doors, they eventually refused to come out and look at my kitchen when I said that my budget was under £5k. I priced up new doors online and then found a local carpenter. When he came round, I explained what I wanted and that my real dream was to have an “in-frame” look. He laughed, told me to scrap my ideas of buying new doors and instead he made entire new fronts that look a million times better than anything I could get off the shelf. It was also a fraction of the price!! My kitchen isn’t perfect (i find it too dark. - but that’s another story and not to do with the carpenter!!) - however it’s high quality, completely bespoke and an absolute bargain! Here’s my before and after.......See MoreStudio S Squared Architecture, Inc.
