Pro's and con's for converting a 4 bed house to a 3 bed + ensuite?
Comments (15)I agree with Jonathan, keep the rooms as they are - lose the long stretch of wardrobes on the back wall of the 2nd bedroom then steal a bit of space for the ensuite (you probably don't need the full width of the room so maybe leave an alcove that can then become a built in wardrobe for that room). If possible I'd stick a frosted window in for the en suite, even if it backs onto an alley if its obscured glass the view doesn't matter but it will bring in light and feel less claustrophobic. I've attached a quick version of what I mean - in the new ensuite room the shower is to the left, basin middle and toilet right with blue line representing the window. The alcove that is left in the 2nd bedroom is turned into a wardrobe so there is still some storage in there. Let me know what you think and good luck with whatever you decide :)....See MoreLay out for a loft ensuite?
Comments (21)We are going to have a similar ensuite with shower in the tallest part, sink opposite the door and toilet opposite the shower under the slope. We're limited with the width due to the doorway into the attic bedroom but have enough space for a 900 wide shower tray. Would it be better to fit the shower tray before building the stud wall or do the wall first? It'll be a snug fit! We're wanting underfloor heating (probably electric) if that makes any difference? Appreciate any advice....See Morenarrow tall ensuite
Comments (10)@keiblem please find below pictures at bottom on what I meant, there is just a gap right now. An ensuite will be very useful. @rinked the chimney is in use. This room is directly above the living room. Am likely to change to a vertical radiator as suggested. @annabellaamy did think about the quadrant design though then will have to rip everything down and not sure if can run the soil pipe easily below the shower? @Lee Lock Do you mean folding screen that runs between the ceiling and the floor between the two ends of the wall currently? @Wumi would prefer not to take out the chimney breast. Interesting idea on the japanese doors. Originally was thinking think narrower french doors such that you would get more clearing room to the bed. I have put in a king size bed in the model so a normal double bed would end up with prob 10cm more room? additional photos of how it looks now...See MoreHidden ensuite in wardrobe so not to block the detailed ceiling??
Comments (14)Do you mean just a shallow cuoboard en suite? The other room that mimics this one had a weird box just stuck in up to the ceiling on the right side and it left an awkward space but also cut into the ceiling. Will see if I have a photo tomorrow to show you what I mean. But that has a shower and it's a tiny room so didn't want to take that much of it up. I might remodel that as well to make it longer 😂 Thought if we made it look almost like freestanding furniture/storage cupboards then someone could use it as a lounge as well in the future (especially if they turn the house back into one) but I don't know. Its not desperate but when we do our current bathroom next to it then I need to decide as it will need plumbing in at the same time. 🤣...See MoreClaire M
