What a fabulous room! Cream floor tiles throughout would look terrific. As long as you don´t have a black dog. I have both and have to sweep three times a day. With plain flooring you could add a nice splash of colour behind the cooker.

Dear Jill, Buying a property is a serious financial commitment. I would not hesitate to get a quote or even several preferably from the local tradesmen. You need to factor in the costs associated with these or any other works you intend to do outside or inside the house. This house is very impressive with lots of character. I love the symmetry of it, entrance, large windows and overall proportion. I would rather restore and preserve the original features than paint over. peggysue67 Yes the views are very nice, trees and open countryside, the odd sheep dotted about! Good thought on window size, and blinds which I also like. I thought about glazing the whole area between patio doors and master bedroom above but I am trying to keep costs down really. Thanks for your input :)

Not an expert on this but I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t use PVA to seal exposed stone, especially if you have used lime mortar/plaster or if the building is rendered on the outside. Have you tried just washing the walls with water, this should eliminate the remaining dust and not effect the walls ability to breathe. Or you could add a bit of lime putty mixed with the water and give it a lime wash. Not sure about the window sill but I think some traditional painted joinery would look nice, perhaps with a tongue and groove panel on the uppy bit (technical term;)) or even some traditional solid wood shutters.
