help!! kitchen layout.. can i fit an island in
Comments (49)Dear Wombatchild The two double ovens are on that back wall. The distance from them to the end of the island is 2.6 mtrs. The bank of units is mirror imaged from the centre of the ovens and that means there are two slim pull out larder cupboards on that wall. That 2.6m means that they can be pulled out and it is still no problem for traffic to be flowing past. My hob is on the island itself and the extractor comes up through the granite when in use. That far end of the island is great for taking things out of the oven and checking on food ...... turning potatoes over etc... To the left of that bank of units is a door to my boot room so I need walk way space there. This thread is quite old now and I may be repeating something I typed earlier but I love my kitchen ( think it is about six years since I had it out in) ..... The only things I would have done differently would have been not to have stainless steel sinks as they are a devil to keep looking nice! And I would like more contemporary pendant lights over the island instead of those chrome chandeliers - can change them but still working on husband on that point!!!! Comments (17)Going by the plan above, i'm a little confused. Clearly the sliding door faces to the wall on the right, therefore, it is the length of the shower that should be in question not the width. The sink at 900mm is far too large for the bathroom. Either, have the stud wall at one end of the shower or the other, reduce the size of the sink and have room for the toiletries. You can still fit in a 900 wide shower, it makes no odds if it's 900 or 800. It's the length that's the problem. Alternatively the last option would be to have the 800mm wide shower with the 1200mm length and have the back wall built with niches for toiletries. These will however be constantly covered in water due to the shower head needing to be attached to that wall not the glass sliding doors as in the given illustration. So, better to go for option one or two with the wall at one end or the other. Personally i like the wall at the end near the sink it gives more of an illusion of privacy....See MoreFinding a circular japanese soaking tub
Comments (64)OK, I have decided that I want one of these, but outside the house, for an outdor spa experience (we have a totally secluded and leafy garden, so I'm not worried about the neighbours. I already have hot and cold feeds outside, and drainage should be pretty easy. But I think concrete has to be the material for the tub, for durability, and it will need a cover. Comments (19)Marc - these are absolutely stunning sketches! Sadly, the opportunity to move our WC has passed, so we can’t put the the shower in that corner :( I’m back to two options: 1. Keep same layout but with a shorter, 1600mm bath and bespoke shower built onto the end (only really feasible if I can find a fabricator or bathroom designer to make this happen), and some storage / fitted furniture around the WC/sink - pros are the separation of the two / luxe factor, con is that there’s nowhere for the laundry baskets https://www.duravit.co.uk/products/all_series/happy_d2.com-en.html?product=3167994 2. Full-size bath with bespoke storage at end of bath (opposite the door), with laundry and towel storage, etc) - pros are that we maximise storage and have a full size bath, plus we could save costs around the WC / sink by skipping the additional furniture, cons... no separate shower... Same bath but 1700x750. I’m feeling kind of ambivalent at this point, but the builders are back and will be ripping out the old one soon so need to pull the trigger and get this stuff ordered!
