living room dilemma help!!!

we have just moved into this home, we are debating what to do with the living room and where we want the positioning of the tv and setees (when we buy new ones) one idea is to get rid of the fire place and have a gas fire on the opposing wall with a tv above, then having our new settee as a corner sofa and going along the wall where the fire place would be? this would then allow for a straight run from front door to the kitchen. ideas would be amazing! p.s we have just knocked out the old blow air heating hence the mess!

Hi,

A run through the space is nice if you can cleverly balance the space so it doesn't appear like a corridor or mass of empty space with everything pushed to the side. It may make an uneasy vibe as you walk in one door and out the other.. as you can see the back door from there too. It may not be that 'homely' or inviting'. Consider placing a thin console on the wall there to break-up the line but still having space to move from the front door to the kitchen.

Hi Sian! I would not recommend painting the wall red or green as per se. If you have a small room and furniture is red/green you need to be careful with wall colour, I suggest keeping it as neutral as possible. Soft/dark grey is a safe choice and looks good in contrast to red. It would be good to see the rest of the furniture for a better perspective, perhaps you can take photos with your phone? Check out the option below for colours. Considering your description of the room, I would think about Fashionable grey or Moroccan brown (disregard the blue and brick colours) ? See below the options, from this palette you can also think about grey owl or similar.

Sukiharrison and Odd job Hadyman, Thank you very much for your comments :) We actually intended to have the sofa on the opposite wall and built in cabinets and shelves exactly like you've suggested but I absolutely loved this big L shape sofa so desided to have it as it is now. There is no problem to move one part of the sofa to the opposite wall and the other to the wall against the window, but for now this is more convenient lay out. The shelves have to wait for now but I imagine them in white. After hearing a few suggestions about the secondary light by the window I will probably listen to the pros and remove it In favour of a floor or table lamp. No curtains.. For now :) I have a big thing about dust and would like this house to be as easy to clean as possible and generally don't like curtails Over radiators. Thou I understand this will affect the appearance I'd like to keep it simple.

For the walls you can look at a light grey. Perhaps Ammonite by F&B But you really have to test out some colours. I suggest getting the paper paint swatches and see what works in the room, with the carpet (or a sample of the carpet). Then get testers of a couple of colours that look good enough to try out. Some greys have a red undertone, some a blue, some a green. You don't want them to clash. Depending on which way the room faces, the colours change too. I think I prefer the Ikea sofa as the Next one looks a little bulky for the room, washable covers also sound good. I do prefer the Ikea sofa I added but yours should work too, they're identical except for the arms. I also think they work well with the chairs, a different style is good. Just personal opinion but again for me if you're going industrial I would go for a wood floor and it adds so much warmth to a room, LVT may be a softer option? (Last try I promise!). Not sure if you like any of this? I didn't find cushions to match just in case you hate this one and it takes a while looking! It's impossible to choose art for somebody but you may like these. Junique and desenio are also good for affordable prints. Neon signs are also a good way to personalise a room if that's your thing i would add lots of texture for accessories, I think you need to get the furniture agreed first though. I would go for a light neutral for the walls. Need to know which way the room faces and you could work with any undertone in the navy paint

Hi

You need to put the tv on the opposite wall to the fireplace. A corner group would be ideal on the fireplace wall. We offer great looking feature walls if that's something you want to add to your room.

It's a difficult one i think. Think about what you do most in your living room ie Watch Tv or Entertain friends? Personally I would be inclined to remove the door to the kitchen to create a sense of space. With both the doors opening into the living room it appears a little cluttered. If you entertain a lot think about having the sofa looking out onto that beautiful front garden. If watching TV is the priority put a low sofa against the window so that you can have a mounted TV on the wall closest to the kitchen. Hope it goes well for you :)
