If you could have a secret room, which would you pick?
Comments (31)A secret niche full of cushions and cosy throws with a porthole window looking out onto a lush garden or a sea view. I would hide away here with a good book to escape my noisy children and their constant demands!...See MoreIf you could only save one item in your home, what would it be?
Comments (26)What a terrible question to have to consider- How could you ever choose??? Many say family photos - but you know what - if I lost mine it wouldn't matter too much because I can remember my life in pictures - I was there. We take so many photos on our phone and never look at them we need to try to think back more and remember. My cat? Well, he's not a possession - he chooses to live with us and we are his servants! I suppose it would have to be my first guitar I used professionally - a 1950/early 60s (?) Hofner Congress. Here - have a laugh, this is me in about 1978: The guitar lasted better than I did !...See MoreHow would you lay out our downstairs?
Comments (14)Thank you so much Jonathan for taking the time to draw your ideas. Sorry I couldn't get back to you before, I worked double shift yesterday. I really like the way you envisage the upstairs; moving the utility up a floor makes sense to me although my other half might need persuading. If we went with a utility area (as opposed to a room) we could add a window above the washer & dryer to bring in some light. Otherwise the upstairs landing would be very dark with no natural light. Have to say I do like this layout. Great to see your thoughts on the downstairs too. Moving the kitchen to the front of the house is sth we haven't given much thought to - I suppose we'd prefer to keep it at the back and link to garden - but it definitely good to get your perspective. Thanks again....See MoreWhat would you do with this area in our open plan room?
Comments (6)Thank you guys ... food for thought as always! @ Jonathan, it was a bit of a dilemma trying to work out what room to put into what zone as where the lounge is will be suffering from inner dark room syndrome. In the end we decided to put the lounge there as the kitchen and dining spaces are where we want the most natural light. We have the sofa in that configuration because it's a set we own and was an expensive very big custom built U shaped one so it has to come with us! Plus with the TV going on the wall the utility wall, it would not work for us in terms of having the sofa symmetrically around the TV ... the final thing to settle it was that on some days when we have finished dinner and can't be bothered to do the dishes straightaway, at least we don't have to look at them ha ha! @ Cathy when we tend to have large social gatherings we are always in little clusters all over the house and when we have small friends gatherings we tend to spend the whole evening at the dining table ... maybe moving to the lounge for final coffees but not always however now we are planning to have a corner fireplace it will be nice to "retire" in the lounge Re: storage, there is going to be a sideboard behind the sofa (to hopefully stop them from moving back) which will serve as storage ... though am sure hubster will have ideas of making it a minibar! Back to @ Jonathon - I think the bench idea for extra seating around the dining table is a very good one which I hadn't thought about. It will serve the purpose of as Jen P said, being able to sit and look at the garden and also provide the much needed extra seating when we have family get togethers and save us having to stock up on extra chairs! I think a bench with storage underneath perhaps the way to go?...See MoreRousseau Design Ltd
