There are many horror stories when it comes to mattresses. They can be full of all sorts of disgusting things that you really don't want to think about as you enjoy a blissful night's sleep... So to keep your mattress in ship shape, how do you keep it clean? Do you spot clean, hoover it, air it or something else? And how often do you clean it? (Let's be kind to each and not judge!)
I'm heartened to see from the votes that the vast majority of people went with 'can't remember the last time'. Me neither, I have a mattress protector, which I wash about 4 times a year. PS I'm quite old and have never been laid low with any infections, ailments, or indeed infestations that I could attribute to mattress hygiene or my lack of it. I suspect I'm not alone...
I too wash my mattress protector, along with all the linens every week and air the mattress weekly... However when thoughts turn to mattresses and bed bugs, it pays to remember our entire bodies are literally infested with microorganisms. Of those, are such things as follicle mites on our eyelids, several types that live on our faces etc.
They are in fact benefic to our existence and while people scratch their heads at the mention of a creepy crawly, we really aren't getting away from them..
So while a clean mattress is a must.. It's a far more reassuring thought to have a shower or two! (Especially if you have studied these and looked at them under the microscOpe! :))
I'm very clean and wash everything in site much more than most people I know!! But some people have way too much time on their hands, reading some of these comments.
