POLL: Real or fake Christmas tree?
Comments (50)We've gone for one of each again this year. I'd echo the sentiments of the smell of the real tree being almost magical. The real tree is in the sitting room - and this is basically the wife's. She has full control over this bad-boy. She chooses the decorations, the lights, where things go, what colour scheme (for some reason the lights in this picture look blue. They're not, they're just a different 'white' - phone cameras hey). The fake tree is in the kids room (aka the conservatory) - this is decorated by the kids, and basically they just stand there and throw as much stuff as they can get their hands on in the direction of the tree and see what sticks. I did have to wait till they went to bed to 're-locate' some of the accessories, as 90% of is was only decorated up to waist level....See MorePOLL: Do you iron your sheets?
Comments (50)Supervintagegirl- have you every seen or read about "Extreme Irining" as a sport? There are World Championships in it. Got a book on it as a fun wedding present for a cousin who has been known to ask you to take of some item of clothing that you are wearing as you stand in front of her so she can iron it for you!! I kid you not .... My SIL not far behind. Spent 4hrs - FOUR FULL HOURS - Irining her 20 something year olds shirts the other evening !!! It would take less time to train them to do their own. Ho hum .... ironing can be very therapeutic tho .......See MorePOLL: Conservatory or extension?
Comments (192)If you were our client, we would first assess which way the house faces in order to understand the direction of the sun and the likely impact on the space in terms of light and heat, plus we would ask what use you intend to place on the new space. It is also the case that with whatever heating - a fully glazed conservatory can seem an inhospitable space in the winter months. Even in the UK heat gain during our short summer is a major consideration and whilst roof blinds can be added - these can spoil the original design intent. A part solid / part glazed roof with fully glazed walls may be the most successful. Comments (9)Thanks KWG - this is not good but there is always a solution. 1. The most hassle-free and least bothersome to the plumber is to increase the thickness of the wall. For condensation issues your plasterer has raised, you should ask for 'foil-backed' plasterboard. These are vapour panels that block or limit condensation. Get the best rated one. 2. The alternative is to change your radiators to a configuration that allows the pipe to attach from behind and the valves attach from underneath (see image). It will save you a crucial 8-10cm. On this note, I've just seen that I forgot to post my link for the more detailed BTU calculator: https://www.traderadiators.com/acatalog/heating-calculator.html If you can find something that suits your heating specifications and your taste, this will mean you won't need to compromise on your vision. I hope this has been helpful. Kind regards, Faten...See MoreSonia Goul-Wheeker
