Dulux Paint Challenge - Help!!

As some of you have already heard, Dulux are offering cash back on paint over the bank holiday if consumers buy their product, upload the receipt (and a "before" picture) and 48 hours upload an "after" picture.

The Challenge for me begins tomorrow once I've decided what colour paint to choose and any help with this decision would be MORE than appreciated!

The kitchen is currently painted a mocha colour (appears lighter than it actually is in the picture). Currently it's making the kitchen feel a little dark and gloomy hence the decision to change the colour.

I was considering a soft vanilla / natural hessian - Did consider magnolia but considered it may clash with the tiles.

If there are Any other colours you'd suggest or perhaps agree wth from those above - I'd love to hear from you.

Any of the pale creams will go, would probably go with your natural hessian. Good luck

Great to read you’re looking
to brighten up your kitchen. A new colour does make all the difference and can
make you fall in love with your room all over again.

I know the Paint Challenge offer has now ended, however I thought I’d provide
you with a bit of help if you hadn’t already started.

Firstly, Dulux have recently launched the

Looking at your room, I would recommend a
soft earthy neutral like Chalky Downs 6. This colour is not only a soothing and
calming tone, but having a subtle golden hint, it will really help to uplift
your space and make it feel lighter and brighter. This colour won’t compete
with the colour in your surrounding tiles either, instead it will enhance the

To add extra impact to the kitchen, why not look at being a little bit creative
with a co-ordinating colour? I think it would be a lovely idea to paint Sun
Dust 6, a warming golden tone, in the inner parts of your archways and the
inset of your window, to add a flash of colour. Picking a colour in a
harmonious tone to Chalky Downs 6 will create depth and highlight the beautiful

Which period are you trying to emulate? The damask isn't to my personal taste although that's neither here nor there but I do think the scale may be a bit large and heavy for the room. Have you considered trellis/quatrefoil/geometric/chinoiserie etc style papers? They are period papers but popular Atm. Or just consider something with texture,mie grasscloth effect. You could keep the walls fairly light or neutral in colour and add colour for accessories, art etc. Or if you're going for a velvet Chesterfield consider teal, burnt orange, green, blue etc. You could also add more classical/period accessories ie urn or acorn style lamps, horses head etc (I have one I love from oka which was only £26!). I would choose the paint after the paper and the paper after the sofa!

Hi Andrea Brooks We can totally understand your dilemma - ‘Magnolia’ is certainly not for everyone! Different colours can evoke different moods and feelings, so don’t limit yourself to one colour throughout your whole house. Dark moody tones work brilliantly in bedrooms, and have been proven to help induce better sleep. Our favourite at the moment is Dulux’s Denim Drift. Bright, fresh colours are great for kitchens, and for creating a lively happy atmosphere. I love Dulux Coral Canyon which is really uplifting. Finally, dusted blues and greens have amazing calming qualities, and are fantastic for any rooms you want to relax and unwind in. Dulux Dusted Moss is a beautiful, versatile colour that will suit most styles of property, either traditional or modern. If you are cautious about using colour, why not introduce it slowly through your accessories, or as a feature wall, as these can be easily updated and replaced. I always give the same advice to everyone:- Don't shop on line for specific names colours. Everyone's computer screen will show a different shade. Take a drawer front and something painted with your wall colour to a shop and compare with colour cards. Take some cards home and put them on the wall and narrow it down to just two or three. Then buy the tester pots. Paint A4 sheets of paper with the testers and move the paper around to get a good judge of how the light in your home affects the shades. Then buy the paint of your choice. Colour cards versus actual paint mixed is far more accurate with Valspar than Dulux.
