Help with colour for exterior render and new front door.....
Comments (16)Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?...See MoreExterior house styling
Comments (52)Hi thanks so much. We are looking in to replacing the 2 large windows with a thinner longer frame design. (Currently we have the bottom pane on the large window as a privacy glass as it’s a child’s bedroom So that may be an issue). And also mirroring the longer design in the small window above the porch roof. No idea whether aluminium or plastic is better for this. I do like the black just concerned it darkens it all if we do black composite cladding / black door & black garage ......See MoreDriveway Entrance Gates Advice and Opinions Please
Comments (29)Update: we bottled out and went for traditional wooden gates in the end! We're delighted with them (and so is our dog who can see right through!). Took the advice to remove the pillar lights and placed uplighters at the bottom of the pillar and planted roses under them. As always, thank you for all your wonderful comments and help....See Morefugly retro '60s front garden wall - what to do?
Comments (11)An update to this thread. @Sonia's advice to plant a quick growing clematis montana was quick, easy and cheap to do. So I bought one (£15) and planted it *outside* my garden, in a helpfully positioned big crack in the pavement near the foot of my front wall. Let's see if it grows. Meanwhile I also heard from a builder who said it would be possible to remove the retro bricks whilst leaving the rest of the wall intact, without creating too much of a mess, then re-lay the coping stones on top of the now-lower wall, then render the whole wall (which could then be painted the same colour as the house as others suggested, with (hopefully) the clematis growing over the top). Off the top of his head he suggested (London prices) £700-£800 for this. He said knocking down the wall and rebuilding in traditional brick would be very much more expensive. Thanks again to everyone for their comments...See MoreGardens for Good
