Living in tiny studio in London. Any ideas to renovate cheaply?
Comments (8)Let there be light. It does depend on the look you want. But artex eeck! If you have high ceilings you can put in a false ceiling and put in downlights. LED strips are amazing and you can highlight the smallest area. Go for daylight bulbs too. Mirrors also reflect the light back into the room. As for deco, If you want to get at least 8 people in. Something modular and that clears the floor. Think Japanese, to zone off areas when there are a group of people use screens, free standing or drop from the ceiling, from the void where you have the downlights. Where there are stud walls you can create storage in the stud voids. Choose bright and white colours. If still not sure support up and coming young designers by giving the brief to the amazing, St Martins, London Guildhall, or London College of Printing, Westminster .... Comments (9)Hi Daniel, I would propose a couple of things here. Firstly, if you own the property, pressure washing the stock bricks is what is truly needed here. Unfortunately this isn't a "cheap" solution, because you will also have to repoint with what looks like lime mortar. But this will give you that stunning exterior that you are looking for and means the crisp white windows will look spectacular and you will be very proud of your gorgeous home. If you need a quick fix however and a much cheaper solution you will unfortunately be matching to "dirt". That is fine as long as you appreciate that the colour of your bricks is not their natural tone (I always kind of liked the old London stock brick look anyway) and you can use it to play an industrial edge to your look (if that is your thing). In terms of paint colours, I have a few choices for you. I would always try these in situ and see how they look (because depending on the direction your house faces, the colour of the paint and everything that it is reflecting around it will impact the end result). That is why you are getting that grey look to your crisp bright white. I made a mood board for you, so that you could visualise what I mean a little better. I hope this helped you. Good luck! P.S. I love your house!...See MoreRenovate sitting room
Comments (4)I'd keep them. They are beautiful and suit the room. You can paint them, I'm pretty sure of that but don't ask me about the technicalities. It's a bit of a shame, because it looks like the vein in the wood continues beautifully, but it won't work with natural oak. You could paint them white and paint the insides of the cubes grey or blue or whichever colour you'd like for a different touch....See Morewhat is missing? after renovation
Comments (25)I think the room is most of the way there but for me there are a couple of hard elements that need softening and a couple of things that I think are not sitting so well. I think that the floor and sofa are quite hard looking. A rug under the dining table and a sofa throw could help. Personally I would choose bigger rugs to cover more floor as I think the colour is less contemporary than the rest of the room. I think a couple of oversized house plants could help too. In my opinion the overhead lighting is a little harsh and you should add some table and standard lights. Personally I would prefer to see curtains that match the front windows, behind the dining table. I would remove the picture rail that seems to circle only half the room. I also think that the cabinets would have more presence if against a darker coloured wall and wall mounted so the taller cabinets would be window height....See Moreminnie101
