Need Help with improving kerb appeal!
Comments (66)Hi All, Here's an update. The hedges have settled in nicely over the last 4 years (has it really been that long already?!) They had a trim at the weekend, not the best time of year to cut Phontinia I know, but they had gotten a little out of control.. I intend to add a gate over the next few months and continue to plant the beds along the house. They currently have hydrangea and French lavender plants (oh and the odd azalea) in them but need more. Also going to plant a border of box around each of the beds the trees on the lawn are in - hence why these look a little scruffy at the mo.. I've considered growing something on the walls, but still not sure what or how. Each summer I add two hanging baskets either side of the front door - which help break it up a little. Still very much a work in progress (aren't they always ;-) ) but I like it. Thanks for all the comments, ideas and suggestions - much appreciated!...See MoreHow to add some kerb appeal?
Comments (4)I would add to the above that the bay window above the former garage looks "blind" and would look better with glazing bars to match the other bays on the house. The garage conversion window is oddly proportioned and might look better split into two, or three, separate windows with piers between them. If you don't need all the paving (I know parking is always at a premium so you might) you could remove a few sections of it to get some planting in. If not some nice raised planters with evergreen shrubs in would soften the expanse....See MoreHelp with exterior of house, facade needs more curb appeal!
Comments (24)I think you need to weigh up if there is a profit benefit by building a front gable. You might well increase the square footage by 10% which could be enough to add value particularly if it gives you enough room for an extra room like an ensuite. It may be worth consulting an estate agent to get an opinion- where I live there are some roads where improving the kerb appeal and square footage would easily add more than the cost of improvements...See MoreSerious help needed with curb appeal
Comments (11)Thank you for the pictures! I have seen similar transformations and was considering rendering before posting in this discussion. My conern is that the house is semi detached so not sure if it would look a bit odd having one half rendered and one half not. It is also very one dimensional compared to your examples, not sure whether this makes much of a difference. Maybe changing the windows to a different colour after rendering could give it a bit more definition. We are also first time buyers and don’t intend on living in the house forever so don’t want to do anything too over the top and costly but also don’t want to live in an ugly house....See MoreDytecture
