Hi, it is honed concrete, we matched the wall and the kitchen worktop, it was a great result.

BTW, the kitchen bar that separates kitchen from dining/sitting has a black/white/grey granite counter top. My furniture : sitting area combo of light pine, sunkissed burtch and local hemp with the wine, natural, black (dramatic IKEA chair with stark black cushions) and a multicoloured pillow accents. dinning is a family heirloom walnut gate leg table and chairs stained that older almost black brown that is wearing off. Unfortunately from days gone by I have a complete set of white dishes with blue trim ( my colours used to be yellow green and blue) and quite a bit of blue and white accent pieces. is there any hope? I must admit that I am seriously considering putting the Ecuador materials and wall hanging into the bedroom and reverting back to the pale butter yellow walls and blue green scheme that I used to have. the granite counter top I could see as just another black accent as in a floor lamp and electronics???? and perhaps the top of the half wall?

WorxZone is in the process of completely refurbishing a traditional restaurant, located within a forest, and developing it into something more modern, contemporary and tranquil. Worxzone worked with the owners to make sure the general feel of the restaurant and location were not lost whilst bringing it in line with what you would expect from a modern restaurant. Using two main materials for the walls and floors, microcement and wood, the juxtaposition of modern day and ancient materials could not be more complimenting. The tree currently growing through the restaurant will be cut, preserved and laid flat into a new resin floor.

Interesting question. I think it depends on the budget of the film or tv production and it’s the job of the set decorator to be able to source materials and and be artistically creative within that budget. Might be that parts of some sets were made from cardboard, polystyrene, foam or other cheap material and then spray painted to look the part. Also a lot of sets, especially these days, are computer generated and the actors and a few props are green screened onto the CGI image. Your cafe sounds like a great project. For futuristic panels I would suggest a stronger material such as plywood or MDF and have someone who is handy with a jigsaw to cut them in the required shapes, stick to the wall with strong adhesive and then paint. Would love to see a before and after of your cafe:)
