We have been advised that the vat does not qualify to be reclaimed where this type of property is concerned!

Is this correct?

Hi really love your kitchen - lovely mix of cool, contemporary clean lines with the dash of colour: fantastic! I can understand your dilemma wrt the dining area. I'd tend to echo many of the previous comments - I would go for a smaller, simpler mirror with a plainer (probably white) frame and then I think there are a few options on table & chairs. White would work well - both for table and chairs - and then I'd jazz it up with some orange cushions and a nice runner or table mats. Really liked the white (Ikea?) chairs proposed by Joanna Zygo here: And the table works too. Alternatively, I like the grey/wood table you proposed (the second one), although I wonder if the style is a little "chunky" - thinner, simpler lines may work best with your very sleek units. While I recognise the "dangers" other have flagged wrt using too much white, I really think it would work here, and would really accentuate the inspired use of the orange highlights. As it currently stands, with the mirror and chrome table/chairs, I don't really get the full impact of those gorgeous orange lampshades - and they should be the stars of the show!

They are lovely. I couldn't tell that they weren't wood. Personally, I can't understand those people who insist on keeping old draughty wooden windows that need regular, time consuming maintenance, in the name of 'conservation'. I am sure that, had upvc double glazing been available hundreds of years ago, they would have fitted them originally. I am also sure that, if they had, then the conservationists would prefer the original upvc windows to stay! The ones you have are, in my opinion, far superior to wooden ones anyway.

You have the bare bones of a beautiful kitchen, but I agree it is very bare at present! A few thoughts on what I might choose: While I understand your choice of white for the blind, I think this makes that whole wall too insipid, and that would be the first element I'd change. My personal preference would be to use greyish or duck egg blues as the accent colour - see samples below: Accessorise! Add some wall art... ... and find other ways to inject a little "texture" - everything in the room just now is very "flat" Some potted herbs would be great, as would a shelf or two Finally, give it a month or two - the room will soon find a natural balance with use. And if your room remains too clinical, I will happily hire out my 2 children for an hour or two - they'll soon sort it out!! ;-)

Hi. Do you have any form of splashblack? A pic would also be good even if it's not finished. Could you have reclaimed brick slips/tiles on a wall which would instantly add warmth? I'd go for reclaimed or weathered oak bar stools. There are also lots of lovely chopping boards around in wood and marble. Texture is also massive ATM so you can find lots of textured accessories. A herb pot always looks good and even using dried pasta or fruit/ veg on display will add warmth. Perhaps bring in some warm metallics for accessories. Sainsbury's do a kettle and toaster with some copper in which might be worth looking at. Is there space to display any cookbooks? Perhaps some faux stems on the breakfast bar? Eucalyptus or pussy willow are good for a neutral look
