Comments (3)I too decided to save money and use my existing cupboards, but also wanted to create a more open look . I took all the wall cupboard doors off and painted them with FB emulsion 3 coats applied and they are still as good as new months later. I then peeled off all the Formica sheets on the door and painted then with Wilko kitchen door paint and changed the handles. Will splash out and buy new work tops . Point being research what paint is best for your doors and go for it....See MoreKitchen ideas WANTED
Comments (6)If it were me I would do a few things to achieve the Mediterranean feel. Firstly I would paint the cabinets as I think they are likely more suburban than your taste- I would likely take down the wall cabinets for the same reason and put up shelves instead. Color wise I think Joas White is a good earlier suggestion- with that floor likely green, brown and red tones we going to sit better than a neutral with blue tones. If you particularly like blue then you need to choose something bold. As far as color choice for the cabinets I wouldn’t go pale as I think you won’t like the worktop it you do. I would paint the walls a pale stone color and choose something like London Clay (Farrow & Ball) for the cabinets- personally I think there are better handle choices for this look too. If you do want a blue I would choose a green with a blue quality such as Arsnic (F&B) I also think you need to get a rustic wood table, a statement light fitting over the table and I would look carefully at the lighting in the kitchen because I think with the single pendant you will always be working in your shadow. Consider down lights in your new shelves, consider ceiling spotlights and a dimmer, consider a cool angle poise lamp on the worktop too. Personally I think the current splashback is not the same quality as the rest of the kitchen and doesn’t tick the Mediterranean box- I would have one off to see if they come off easily- in which case just paint the wall- wipeable matt paint is surprisingly good. Alternatively find some patterned tiles you like. Lastly it would be good to put your fridge in a cabinet. Alternatively you can get pvc wraps to help disguise the fridge...See Morekitchen ideas for buy to let
Comments (3)By tight budget do you mean you cannot afford to change flooring and cooker, but maybe can repaint the walls? You could try a rug over the floor to cut down on the ginger glare. Perhaps an indoor/outdoor rug would suit as they are easy to clean and not expensive. How about painting the walls navy as it goes very well with wood. Depends on the natural light in the kitchen....See MoreNew kitchen ideas needed for layout
Comments (9)There you go, free kitchen designs ;) (created with ikea kitchenplanner) First one has nearly the same layout as the old one, but less full. Drawers under and cabinet above oven make up for some lost upper units. Two spacious corner units (take at least one with pullout plateaus, great for pans!) and for the classical symmetric looks two 20cm units next to sink and dishwasher. Also because you don't want the dishwasher completely in a corner. Cooktop above 80cm drawer unit, 60cm drawers left of it. Upper units are 40+80+40, as you want to be able to reach all of it. Second one has one long worktop and tall units opposite. Sleek looks. Instead of the cupboard I placed a shallow unit with upper in the corner, imagine fruit bowl, keys, toaster, breadbox.. Tall units are fridge, oven, 40cm with shelves (or some extra drawers behind doors). The upper unit above the sink is no more than 40cms high (and hangs 60cms above counter), but great to install some worklight under....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
