Comments (8)Sage green is a great colour. I've used it in one of the rooms in our place. It's quite a soft colour, and suits pictures in wood frames, and loves houseplants. Rose pink is actually a great colour but I think needs quite a strong decorating theme to stop it looking old fashioned. We have used it for our living room, and it will be teamed with white marble, black and brass accents etc to stop it being too feminine. As Man About The House Says, painting the front door and paying attention to lighting will make all the difference. If you use warm temperature LED f"filament" style bulbs, or a copper/brass reflective pendant light, you will make it cosier and bring out the warm tones in any paint you use. Cool light bulbs will make it colder. I am using different bulb temps in different rooms to bring out the colours the way I want them - pick colours for how the natural light falls during the day, and change/maintain them in the evenings with your artificial lighting....See MoreDecorating a hall and staircase
Comments (9)Ah.............now I see. Yes that will look absolutely fine. If you're just doing it up to sell it on, then you don't want to be paying for unnecessary plastering. Mind you, make sure you don't get drawn in to all that feature wallpaper stuff. Just bright and tidy. I always think that the less personal you make it the better. We've done many properties in the past, we always went with a neutral theme throughout. Same paint colour everywhere. Spend on the kitchens and bathrooms, but don't go mad. They're both big ticket items and you want to provide something to everyone's taste. Go for mid range built in appliances etc. Also, you can do a little staging with curtains etc, but don't ship in furniture. For one, the rooms look bigger without it in, and I often found that potential buyers preferred to imagine their stuff in there, and were able to a lot better without anything in the way of their imagination....See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See MoreEntrance Hall Decor Ideas
Comments (21)What a great space, love the Crittal doors. I’d definitely go light, white ceiling and walls with brilliant white gloss skirting to show off the flooring. On the “mirror” wall I’d put wall paper to add interest and bring in the dark blue of the neighbouring kitchen. There are so many patterns to choose from. The space has a modern feel with a nod to previous eras with parquet type floor and black glazing so I’d look at the William Morris design range of Wallpapers - old traditional style with amazing patterns and colours relevant to today. good luck...See Moreheathre777
