Help desperately needed for living room
Comments (12)I used to work with TV's, support and installation, as a general rule, if you can comfortably leave your hand where the bottom of the screen is - it''ll be fine. That also looks like an electric fan heater. So it's not as hot and blows forward more than up :) If you don't use it, take it out, that's what I did...See Morehello guys, I need advice on redecorating this living room please,
Comments (1)I'd definitely try and remove the wall friezes and then re-painting. I'd change the TV stand for something more fitted into the alcove that you can hide the speakers in. Then address the curtains, they're quite thick and stop the light coming in, so I don't know what's outside, but hanging a pole with floor length curtains would be better, then add a nice rug, coffee table to match the display unit and another if you wish to match in the corner that you have the plant, ( that table is too tiny for the room ). Pick a colour scheme and then go from there....See MoreLiving room curtain advice please
Comments (13)You need to make a decision. Do you want the fabric to bring colour and pattern to your room or do you want to keep the whole room neutral? If you want pattern, the next decision is what style- check or plaid, stripe, floral or geometric? Then what colour(s). The room, as you point out, is not overly bright, but do you use this room much during the day or is it an evening room? You could opt for deep, rich colour that warms the room at night like burgundy, deep turquoise or terracotta. Adding patterned cushions with similar colours will splash colour around the room. Also, I'd replace the Roman blinds with matching fabric to the curtains, otherwise that will will lack colour. You could make a single curtain for each of those smaller windows in your main fabric and pull it to the side furthest from the fireplace, tied back. As to style, since you don't appear to be overlooked, floor length curtains on the front window and patio doors can be on a 50mm pole extending at least 150mm plus finials each of the windows. To stack them further back extend the pole more, but take care not to have wall showing just before the window recess. Tieing them back would allow more light to come in. If you choose a multi coloured pattern, later changes to your lounge will not necessarily mean that you need to change the curtains. Remember that decorating your home is less about style and more about you and your family. Have fun....See MoreLiving/dining decor advice needed please
Comments (4)Because the sofas are big heavy and dark I agree that you need to lighten up this room. I wouldn't have additional furniture because I think it looks full already but I might swap your little table lamp for a standard lamp to you have a light that is the same height as the TV. I also think your mirror is undersized, it should hang portrait to make the room seem taller - a round mirror would also work. I would get a white dining table. The mahogany trunk seems to obscure the view of the fireplace- perhaps a lower table should be better. I would also get an oversized houseplant. I don't mind the fireplace. I think you can put any colour on the walls and I don't think it has to be neutral but you should replace the curtains with much paler-perhaps even white. I think one of the reasons for replacing the curtains is the now slightly dated pattern. Perhaps put pattern in art or cushions so it can be changed more regularly. I like the rug but it does dictate your decorating choices- could it go in another room? If it can I think that your instinct is right that a large pale textured rug would be comfy and visually break up the dark tones of the sofas and floor. Lastly I would add a throw and a couple of cushions to make the sofas less imposing, add pattern and break up their darkness....See MoreStacy Oakey
