Spare Bedroom - which colour/theme?
Hi guys,
I'm stuggling to decide which theme to go with for my spare room. Light and "contemporary" or darker and more classic. What do you think?
The room will have no bed, but a stylish sofa bed in sofa/bench mode 99% of the time.
Dark with top section in off white to add height and length
Dark, No top section
Light/white with fake oak beams as a feature wall
What do you think? I'm really struggling and wanted to get it finished this week - I haven't even laid the new floor :P TIA

Comments (6)you can go dark but think about a warmer dark than blue. what about a fashionable browny grey or a deep umber, even aubergine. blue is considered a cold colour, so cosying up your room with blue will be hard to do. electric light on it can be harsh so all in all i would steer clear if I am honest....See MoreSpare bedroom makeover

Comments (2)On the floorboard topic. We did in fact in one of our houses lay new 'reclaimed boards' over the top of the existing and put a membrane underneath to stop the drafts. You can also employ a carpenter to put slivers in the gaps and fill, this will work well, especially if you plan to paint the boards. I personally prefer carpets in bedrooms and floorboards downstairs just for comfort and of course heat loss especially if you plan to keep the original windows. Looking forwards:- When you come to re-sell, a sympathetic set of double glazed windows will in my opinion leave the value the same if not more than original single glazed, after all it's not a listed building. Energy reports are important and single glazed etc just won't perform well in those circumstances. Bed:- I'd go for a cast iron, victorian if we're going period sympathetic, they have the added advantage of creating the illusion of space in smaller rooms as you can obviously see under them and they don't block floor space....See MoreChildrens Bedroom themes!

(this post spare room will be a seating, studio, guest room) I know you'd say take the TV out (not in the picture ;)) But what would FS say about the rest?
I should point out the main door is off to the left and not directly at the end of the bed. The door in the picture is the en suite

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoThanks, the only picture I have is this one. This is the end of the bed, the main door is on the right of this picture and the TV is centered to the bed. To the right of picture one is the window ( left of TV picture) I stood in the corner left of the TV to take the first picture. The room is "square"
Why not straight lines!? I don't think my ocd could cope without lines lol

7 years agoso I've started with I light reflective grey. now o might change my mind again lol, what do you think, all walls or feature wall?
the floor will be light ash wood and the furniture will be white and grey tones

The paint is "grey skies" silk, from Wilko £10 a tin :P I had some left over from when I did the other spare room, I was a bit worried about using it too much but it made sense in the design and also as it'll be a room for photos so the netural grey will stop colour problems in photos.
